Error vs Uncertainty. Mathematical, terminological and conceptual aspects of evaluating the characteristics of measurement accuracy

ABSTRACT. The parallel coexistence of the concepts of errors and uncertainty for almost a 30-year period, causing constant discusses, raises the questions of their analysis and comparison. The concept of uncertainty is the product of an international standardization process for measuring accuracy evaluation. The development of the concept of uncertainty was carried out on the basis of analysis and generalization of the documents for errors evaluation, relevant in different countries, therefore many elements of both approaches coincide. Nevertheless, there are a number of mathematical, terminological, and conceptual differences that are considered in the report. It should be noted that if the development of the theory of errors stopped at the end of the 90s of the last century, then the concept of uncertainty has been successfully developing from this moment thanks to the activities of JCGM and a number of other international organizations. Along with GUM, a variant of the implementation of the model approach appeared, based on the Monte Carlo method, an empirical approach was formed, and the revision of GUM based on the Bayesian inference began. Nevertheless, both concepts have internal contradictions and shortcomings with which even their creators themselves agree. Therefore, the task of theoretical metrologists is to build a unified theory for evaluating the accuracy of measurements, eliminating the shortcomings of both approaches.

Study of a Panel of Recyclable Materials to Improve Energy Efficiency During the Winter Season

ABSTRACT. in this article, two panels of recyclable materials have been developed and studied, one panel being coated with Plexiglas and the other with a Fresnel lens. The temperature is measured with thermocouples type K. For several consecutive days measurements were performed at different intensities of sunshine. It has been shown that the use of a Fresnel lens to heat the air in the prepared panel with sunlight is not effective

Influence of Voltage and Current Samples Errors on the Reactive Power Measurement Error

ABSTRACT. Currently, for reactive power measurement the digital measurement methods are applied both in time and in frequency domain. When determination of the voltage and current samples, the errors of the measurement channels exists that results to the reactive power measurement error. The most important case of the occurrence of the voltage and current samples measurement errors is an analog-to-digital converter (ADC). The measurement errors of voltage and current samples can be divided into the following components: additive, multiplicative, linearity and quantization. The paper consider the influence of each of the listed error components on the reactive power measurement error for the time domain and frequency domain measurement method. Analytical expressions are obtained that relate each component of the samples error and the reactive power measurement error. The methods for representing the ADC nonlinearity and their influence on the reactive power measurement error are considered. By using the Simulink package, a simulation model of voltage and current measurement channels and the influence on the reactive power measurement error was obtained. The reliability of the obtained analytical expressions is confirmed by the coincidence of the simulation results and analytical expressions at check points.

Calibration of power quality analyzers on total harmonic distortion by standard periodic non-harmonic signals

ABSTRACT. An approach to power factor calibration is proposed for power quality analyzers using periodic non-harmonic signals. These signals have a well-known mathematical description, ie they have a certain harmonic spectrum, which gives grounds to create reference values of the power factor by changing the parameters of the signal. The calibration results of the Fluke 435 analyzer using the Metrix CX1651 calibrator are presented. The evaluation and analysis of the obtained experimental results show the applicability of the approach using periodic inharmonic signals for power factor calibration of power quality analyzers.

Application of the method based on the averaging of the squares of samples for the RMS measurement of nonsinusoidal signals

ABSTRACT. Nowadays, for the measurement of RMS in a given frequency band, the method based on averaging of the square of samples is the most popular. This method has several advantages, among which we can single out the simplicity of implementation, low value and simplicity of analysis of measurement error. To ensure a low measurement error, adjustment of the number of averaged samples or adjustment of the start time of measurement can be applied. Another important advantage of the method under consideration is the possibility of using it for sinusoidal or polyharmonic input signal. The article discusses the implementation features of the considerate measurement method for the case of an input non-sinusoidal periodic signal. Analytical dependences are obtained for the RMS measurement error for the case of a non-sinusoidal input signal. Methods of reducing the measurement error are proposed and estimates of their effectiveness are obtained. The influence of noise and flicker on the RMS measurement error is considered. By using the Simulink software package, a simulation model of the RMS measurement converter was proposed. The reliability of the analytical relationships is confirmed by the coincidence of the results which are obtained by using analytical expressions and the results of simulation modeling at the checking points.

Control Systems for On-Load Tap-Changers

ABSTRACT. The quality of electrical energy is of great importance for modern electrical networks. The stability of the nominal voltage is one of the main parameters of this quality. To ensure this stability, on-load tap-changers integrated into the power transformers are widely used. Classical tap changing schemes have some drawbacks, and because of this more and more semiconductor assisted schemes and schemes with vacuum interrupters are used. The paper presents various control systems designed for diverter switches of on-load tap-changers with special elements. Their advantages and disadvantages are discussed. Specific implementations of different types of control systems are considered.

Measurement of the Efficiency of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

ABSTRACT. The most important indexes while comparing the performance of the electric vehicles are: 1) the mileage for a single full charge and 2) the efficiency in km/kW.h or t.km/kW.h. As these indexes are deeply interrelated, we assume efficiency is a major specification in most practical cases. The efficiency of the charging stations is a direct multiplier calculating the total efficiency of electric vehicles. Its significant weight and importance draw special attention to measurement methods, measurement conditions and required accuracy in the measurement process to assess the efficiency of electric vehicle charging stations. The paper aims to describe an applied methodology for assessment of Electrical Efficiency of the Charging Stations based on experience with Supercap Rechargeable Energy Storage System (RESS) and provides conclusions valid to all types of RESS.

Factor Analysis for Humandependent Factors Received in actions in a Virtual Reality

ABSTRACT. Virtual reality – VR is a computer-generated scenario that simulates a realistic experience. The immersive environment can be similar to the real world in order to create a life like experience grounded in reality or sci-fi. Virtual reality shares some elements with "augmented reality". A driving simulation is the imitation of a real life driving experience in a completely controlled and safe environment without risking the lives of the participants. Nowadays we have many cars in our different roads. Before they come out they must first face different types of tests. In the paper is done a factor analysis for some human depend factors over simulation sickness due to the practice in VR. The simulator sickness – is a phenomenon that needs to be investigated deeply so it could be controlled as much as possible. In this paper have been investigated connection of 5 independent variables – motion sickness, MS history (person suffer from motion sickness), driving frequency (person is a Frequent driver), Gender, Age and person Playing video games daily over simulator sickness using Factor analysis. Participants were students and members of staff at a University of Applied Sciences in southern Germany.

Cartography of Emotions and a Modern View of Elements

ABSTRACT. Based on metrological empirical methods in humanities, the present paper proposes new systematic ways of mapping, describing and classifying our emotional preferences. The most important result obtained in this ongoing series of experiments is that rather than experiencing the same arbitrary sets of emotions, people are divided from their moment of birth into four distinct groups with their preferable emotional components, which, in their turn, are in accordance with the traditional philosophical views of the four basic elements.
