Shelly Nerney is currently seconded to Oide, a support service for teachers and school leaders funded by the Department of Education in Ireland. In her role as Senior Leader for the Post-Primary Digital Technologies team, she focuses on enhancing the integration of technology in learning, teaching and assessment. Her team offers extensive support for digital learning planning and practice, and leads innovative projects aimed at advancing digital education.

A passionate advocate for evidence-informed teaching, Shelly is committed to bridging research and practice. She draws on key principles from cognitive science to support teachers in designing learning experiences that enhance student understanding, engagement, and retention.

Before joining Oide, Shelly was a post-primary geography and religious education teacher, and served as her school’s iPad Coordinator. Her classroom experience continues to shape her approach, ensuring that digital tools and strategies are practical, purposeful, and grounded in strong pedagogy.
