Bio

Toks Bakare is founder of asktoks.com and an accomplished advocate for quality inclusive education, with a committed passion to achieving a just and equitable world for all children. Ms Bakare has been a Senior Executive, leading educational programs and treatment interventions for children with neurodiverse backgrounds. As an Applied Behaviour Analyst in the UK, Europe and West Africa, she has almost 2 decades of experience in developmental psychology, curriculum development and a history in capacity-building in the field of inclusive education. Acknowledged for her work in Africa, Ms Bakare was Women for Africa’s 2015 International Humanitarian of the Year final nominee. She went on to present a framework for sustainable inclusive education in developing countries in a Side Event on Special Education, for the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, New York (UNGA, 2018).  Toks’ work at UNGA was instrumental to the UN’s adoption of a resolution declaring January 24th International Day of Education with inclusive education as one of its priority objectives. 

As an XR enthusiast Toks seeks to further the use of immersive learning experiences for education and training. She is currently a Director of Business Development at Mursion, a virtual reality learning technology company. At Mursion, Toks’s deep knowledge in immersive technologies for education, is leveraged to support Mursion’s corporate clients as they explore the power of virtual reality simulations to enhance their diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging initiatives, their leadership development and other adult learning and development programs. Toks is also a co-dean of the AR/VR Africa Bootcamp as well as a judge at the annual AR/VR Africa Hackathon. 

Prior to her role at Mursion, Toks received her masters in Technology Innovation and Education from Harvard’s Graduate School of Education where she also served as a Teaching Fellow on Motivation and Learning, teaching alongside Professor Chris Dede the then Timothy E. Wirth Professor in Learning Technologies. Her background in education and experience with XR brings this unique perspective to all of her current work, which sits at the intersection of consulting in emerging technologies, the future of work, learning and diversity.
