Classic Bale Mountains National Parks Tour

Day 1 – November 22. Drive from Awassa to Bale Mountains National Parks.

Morning after breakfast, meet your guide in Awassa and drive south east to Bale Mountains National Parks, on the way making a stop at site seeings to visit plenty of bird species including endemic ones such as; (Blue-breasted bee eater, Grey headed kingfisher, Hadada ibis, Yellow billed kite, African pied wagtall. . . Just to mention) as well visiting colorful local market.

After a lunch break, drive to Dinsho park (to the HQ of the park) and spend the day visiting variety of mammals including an endemic ones at Gaysay grasslands, which is a home to more than 40 specious of mammals including the endemic ones, a perfect place for wild life enthusiasts. Take a short walk and horseback trek to visit the mammals through the park viewing stunning mountain scenery. Engage on a short hiking coming across plenty of mammals and colourful bird species. Overnight in a hotel in Goba town. 

Day 2 – November 23. Sanneti Plateu and Harenna Forests.

Morning after breakfast drive to Sannettie plateau to spot the most endangered an endemic and elegant Ethiopian wolf as they start to hunt for an endemic Giant Mole Rats for their breakfast. Visit plenty of birds specious and mammals including endemic ones. Engage on an excellent hiking to Mount Tullu-Dimtu, the 2nd highest point in Ethiopia, at 4377 assl, a perfect place for viewings. Continue a drive down further to a dense Harrena Forests; here you'll have a chance to visit predators; a lion, wild pig, wild cats and dogs, black leopards. Stay with the most unspoiled social community, visiting or helping them harvesting wild forest coffee, and honey traditional way in the jungle. Take a hike through the dense Harranna forests (Bamboo forests). Do a short hike to the waterfall located in the Harrena Escarpments. Meet an endemic Bale monkeys, a bamboo specialists. Stay for some hours at the Bale Mountains lodge, a best place for relaxing and reorganizing after a long site seeings.

After a lunch and coffee break, you’ll engage on a best hiking trail to ‘Mount Gushuralle” to the peak of dense Harenna forests. Wildlife you come across includes; An endemic mountain Nyala, an endemic Menelik Bushback, Bohor Rebuck, a Forest Hog, endemic Bale Monkeys…. Just to mention. Late afternoon drive back to Goba for overnight in a hotel.

Day 3 – November 24. Drive from Bale Mountains to Awassa.

Morning after a breakfast and coffee we will drive back to Awassa. After a lunch you’ll be transferred to Awassa airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa or directly drive back to Addis Ababa.

Day 1 – November 22,  Drive from Awassa to Arbaminchii.

Morning after breakfast, drive to Arba Minch, one of the main towns in Southern Ethiopia.  On the way, do some hiking to the Guga Mountains to visit Dorze Village. The Dorze tribes are known for their tall, beehive-shaped bamboo houses.  If the base becomes infested with termites, the entire house can be lifted and moved to another location.  Overnight in Haile Arbaminchii Resort, with amazing views of the Park, dense forest and the Lakes.

Day 2 – November 23, A game driving to Nechii Sar National Parks.

Early morning after breakfast, drive to Nechii sar national parks to witness as it comes alive. Spend the day doing a game driving across the park, visiting varied terrain spans escarpments, swamps and forest. Visit Zebras and gazelles roam the vast savannahs of the Nechisar Plains. Stay viewing the large, brown-red Lake Abaya sits on the north side of the mountainous "Bridge of God" isthmus and to the south is Lake Chamo, known for its big Nile crocodiles. The park is home to many birds, including the rare Nechisar nightjar. Overnight in Haile Arbaminchii Resort.

Day 3 – November 24, Nechii Sar and Boating trip to Lake Chamo.

Morning continue a game driving through the park searching for kudus in a lots of white grass. After a lunch and coffee break, late afternoon take a boat trip on Lake Chamo and view some of the largest Nile crocodiles in the world sunning on the banks of the lake. Hippopotami and birdlife are also abundant. Overnight back in Haile Arbaminchii Resort.

Day 4 – November 25, Drive from Arbaminchii to Awassa.

Morning after breakfast, depart from Arbaminchii for a drive back to Awassa. After a lunch you will be transferred to Awassa airport to your flight back to Addis Ababa.

Eastern Ethiopian Tour Combined with Awash National Parks

Day 1 – Activity drive to Awash National Park

In the morning drive Awash National Park to visit the wonderful birdlife and wildlife, such as oryx, baboons, greater and lesser kudu, warthogs, gazelles, colubus monkeys. Additionally, you???d be very lucky to see leopards, lions, and other cats. The landscapes in the park are beautiful, looking over the Awash Gorge Awash Falls.  Overnight Camping or Lodge in the park.

Day 2 – Activity Drive to Harar

After breakfast drive Dire Dawa visit the city after that drive to Harar.  At night visit the Hyena Men who feed the hyenas every night just outside the walls of the city. You can even give a try at feeding the hyenas with your mouth! Overnight guest house in Harar.

Day 3 – Activity Visit around Harar

In the morning, drive out to Babile and the Valley of Marvels. The Valley of Marvels has wonderful landscapes, famous for its balancing rock formations. Additionally, the town of Babile has a very large market on Saturdays and a camel market on Mondays and Thursdays. And we will visit Babbile Elephant Sanctuary. Afterwards, continue back to Harar. Overnight guest house in Harar.

Day 4 – Activity city tour in Harar

Harar the medieval walled city, worth of mosques, minates, colorful markets, baskets & center of muslim learning. Visit the colorful market, house of the French poat Arthur Rimbaud, the grand market, harari traditional houses (beautifully decorated. Overnight guest house in Harar.

Day 5 – Activity Drive back to Addis

In the morning start drive back to Addis, on the way we will stop for relax and to have coffee. Overnight Addis Ababa.

Omo Valley, Souther Ethiopia Tribes Tour Combined with Mago National Parks

Day 1: Addis Ababa / Arbaminch (via Butajira)

Morning after having your breakfast drive to Arbaminch, en-route visiting the Archaeological site of Melka Kuntre, the medieval period stone stelae of Tiya and various tribes of the area. After lunch, you will continue driving to Arbaminch on the way visit the villages of Doze tribes which known for their weaving technologies and giant bee hive like houses. Have dinner and an overnight in the hotel / lodge at Arbaminch.

Day 2: Arbaminch / Jinka

In the morning you will have a boat trip over Lake Chamo to see the biggest African crocodiles and hippopotamus as well as beautiful aquatic birds including the lovely Kingfisher and Fish Eagle. Then continue drive to Jinka en route visiting different cultural people and their villages which includes, Gamo, Derashe, Konso people and undulating landscape of Konso and the surrounding area. After having lunch on the way, you will have a brief stop to visit the Tsemay tribe around Wayto River, Benna tribe at Key Afer, the Ari tribe at Kako village. Have an Overnight in Resort / hotel, Jinka.

Day 3: Jinka / Mursi- Mago National Park / Jinka

Very early in the morning, drive through Mago National Park to the Mursi People, whose men are renowned warriors, and whose women are famous for the lip plates which is highly considered as sign of beauty. After a picnic lunch, you will drive through the dry savannas of 835 square- mile, in the Mago National Park there are around 81 recorded specious of mammals. Gazelles, giraffes, warthogs, and hartebeests are common here. Occasionally, Elephants are seen or heard as the move through the territory. After lunch In the late afternoon driving to turmi via key afere and Overnight in turmi, in hotel / Lodge, Turmi.

Day 4: Turmi / Karo / Turmi

After an early breakfast in the hotel head towards Turmi road to Murulle, a settlement for the Karo people famous for their unique body decorating culture. Drive back to turmi have  lunch and Start sightseeing of hamer  village. Then drive to Turmi for overnight stay. Have an overnight in hotel / Lodge, Turmi.

Day 5 : Turmi / Arbore / Konso , Arbaminch  

Morning head to Konso via Arbore ,  en route, first visit the village of the Arbore people which shares many cultural features with the Oromo people in Borena and continue driving to Konso, a settlement for the Konso people . The Konso are famous for their old and unique terracing, unusual engraved wooden statues of Konso grave markers. The Konso are mixed agriculturalists, whose most important crop is sorghum and they are known for their beautifully constructed stone and stick villages. Each family compound has several thatched stone huts enclosed by Moringa Oliverra trees and several communities within the village share a 'mora' - a house where communal decisions are made. Have an Overnight in hotel / Lodge, Arbaminch.

Day 6: Arbaminch, Alaba ,Hawassa.

Early in the morning drive to Hawassa on the way visit the Alaba tribes known by decorating their Giants hat with colorful walls then preceding to hawassa for overnight.

Day 7: Hawassa / Addis Ababa.

In the morning visit the fish market in the lake shores of lake hawassa which is rich in aquatic birds and continue drive to Addis en route visit the rift valley lakes of langano the Abijita - shalla national park which are rich in aquatic related bird species and preceding to Addis Ababa.

Southern Ethiopian Tribes, Omo Valley - Ethnological Tour

Day 1: Addis Ababa to Hawassa

Morning after breakfast, depart from Addis and drive south to Hawassa. On the way making a stop to visit sites such as; 12th century  Rock Hewn churches of Adadi Mariam (different), Alaba tribes and local tribal market and Sankalle Swayne's Hartebeast Sanctuary - a sanctuary established to protect a mammal that is endemic to Ethiopia, do a game driving across this sanctuary to meet other mammals too. Stay for some hours mixing with the Rastafarian Shashemene communities in Ethiopia. Overnight in a hotel, in the young and relaxing city of Hawassa.

Day 2: Hawassa to Arbaminchii, South

Morning take a boat trip at lake Awassa and meet a group of giant Hippos and plenty of acquatic birds. Visit the biggest local fish market in the country held by the shore of the lake. After lunch proceed to Arbaminchii, on the way driving up hill to mix with a unique 'Dorze village tribes'.  Overnight in a hotel at Arbaminchii city.

Day 3: Arbaminchii to Turmi

Depart from Arbaminchii and drive to 'Turmi' to mix with the local tribes, stay exploring their marriage, trading... etc traditions. Afternoon visit the local market of Turmi tribes. Overnight in a hotel at Arbaminchii city.

Day 4: Turmi to Omorate - Dassenach

Depart from Arbaminchii and drive to Omorate crossing Omo river by local canoe you meet Dassenach tribes. Afternoon proceed to Dimeka tribe local market. Spend overnight in Turmi in a hotel.

Day 5 : Turmi to Karo - Omo River  

After breakfast, drive to Karo tribes on the bank of Omo river - a tribe well known for their traditional body paintings, decorations as well the smallest unique tribes in Ethiopia. After we spend reasonable time here, proceed to Jinka to meet 'Ari tribes' and experience their too local and different daily life styles. Overnight in Eco Omo lodge (reasonable price) or in a hotel.

Day 6: Mago National Parks to Mursi

Morning cross Mago National Parks to meet the most fashionable tribes of 'Mursi' famous for their lip plate. Afternoon proceed to 'Key Afer' to visit the most colorful tribal market in the region, where all tribes appear in one market, unmissable. Overnight in a hotel at Jinka city.

Day 7: Jinka to Konso

Northern Ethiopia Historical Route Tour Combined with The Simien Mountains National Parks

Day 1: Addis Ababa to Bahardar

Morning after breakfast, you will meet your guide and depart from Addis Ababa for a drive north to Bahardar. Enroute you will visit 'Debre Libanos Monastery' which is founded by Priest 'Tekle Haimanot', today one of Ethiopia's most renowned Saint and the museum. Further drive the road dropping more than 1000 metres, gradually winds down to the bottom of Blue Nile gorge, spectacular views. After a lunch at Debre Markos city, you will arrive in a beautiful lake sided city of Bahardar for overnight in a hotel.

Day 2: Bahardar Boat Trip to Lake Tana and Excursion to the Blue Nile Fall

You will have an early breakfast and drive to Lake Tana and take a boat trip to where you will visit the medieval period monasteries (beautiful Mural paintings, religious books and sacred) on the lake Tana such as; Kibran Gabriel (only for men), Entos and on the Zegien Peninsula visit Ura Kidane Mehiret, Azuwa Mariam and Mahal Giorgis. After a lunch break, you will drive to the Blue Nile gorge for a spectacular views. Overnight back in a hotel in Bahardar city.

Day 3: Bahardar to Gondar

Morning after breakfast, you will be driven to the nearby historical city of Gondar - a former capital of Ethiopia. After a brief break, you will take a tour to the heart of 'Fasil Ghebbi'. This UNESCO world heritage site is a 7 hectar Royal compound enclosing six castles and the Bath of Emperor 'Fasilades'. This Bath is filled with water for important Timqati (Epiphany) ceremony. In addition, you will visit ancient churches and several 17th century buildings. Then you will continue a tour to the most beautiful of Gondarine church of 'Debre Birhan Silassie' (Trinity at the Mount of light). Early in the evening, you will visit 'Azmaribet' a traditional restaurant with a folklorist's song and dance for a local dinner and traditional Royal family drinks.

Day 4: Gondar to The Simien Mountains National Parks

Morning, you will have breakfast and drive to Debarq, finish the formalities at the HQ of the park here and continue a short drive, then make a short hike / trek and spend the day exploring the Simien Mountains National Parks, a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its endemic mammals, birds, natural vegetations and Wonderful landscapes. Late afternoon drive to Sankaber to spend the night camping under the stars at Sankaber Campsite - a best place for camping in the country.

Day 5 : Simien Mountains National Parks to Axum

Right after breakfast, an early morning drive will take you to Axum through the Simien Mountains National Parks magnificent topography and sceneries via Limalimo gorge and Tekeze valley. You will arrive in Axum in the afternoon. After checking in your hotel, a nice lunch and break then you will proceed to visit the Steale - Obelisks of Axum, the Inscription of King Ezana, Queen of Sheba's Palace, the Tombs of King Kaleb and Gebre Merkel dating back to 6th century. In the evening, before sunset you will get back to your hotel to spend the night.

Day 6: Axum to Mekele

You will have early morning breakfast and will take part in a colorful church ceremony held at the famous 'Saint Marry of Zion Church'. Stay visiting this church which is the country's oldest church - where once the true Ark of the Covenant was once kept. After a coffee break, you will visit Ruins of ancient palaces (Built until 4th century AD). After lunch, you will drive to Mekele on the way making a stop to visit the ancient Monastery of Debre Damo, built on the flat topped mountain and is only accessible by climbing a rope which hangs down from a perpendicular rock, an adventure in itself. Then drive further to spend overnight in a hotel in a nice and relaxing city of Mekelle.

Day 7: Mekelle to Lalibella

An early morning drive out from Mekelle through the Ambalage chain of mountains will take you to Lalibella. Your arrival to Lalibella will be in the afternoon. You will check in to your hotel, have a lunch and spend the rest of the day visiting the Sub terrain complex of 11 Rock Hewn Churches of Lalibella in active use since it was excavated in the late 12th century. You will visit the first 6 clusters of the churches on this day. Overnight in a hotel at Lalibella.

Day 8: Lalibella City Tour

After early morning breakfast, you will visit the other 5 cluster of the churches taking part in a colorful church ceremony held at the famous of all the churches of Lalibella - at 'Saint George' (Bete Giorgis) church. Then you will engage on an excellent trekking trail from Lalibella to Mount 'Abune Joseph' at 4, 284 metres high - a perfect place for viewings. After a lunch and coffee break you will drive out from Lalibella to Dessie city on the way making a stop to visit the site of ancient Monastery of 'Hayiq Istifanos' and explore the lake side on foot coming across plenty of colorful bird species. Then you will drive further and spend overnight in a hotel in Dessie city.

Day 9: Lalibella City Tour

Morning after breakfast, you will depart from Dessie and drive back to Addis Ababa via Debrebirhan city viewing spectacular landmarks of Afro-alphine plateaus. Late afternoon you will arrive back in Addis Ababa.

After shopping you will have a farewell dinner in a traditional restaurant with a folklorists song - dance. Then drop you off at your hitel or at Bole international airport for your international flight back home.

Day 5 - November 26,  Lalibela City tour.

In the morning, after breakfast, fly to Lalibella. Visit the first group of Lalibela Churches which are located north of a small stream named Jordan River. These Churches were carved during the time of King Lalibela (1181 – 1221) and are registered by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. After a lunh and coffee, have an excursion trip, hiking to the cave-built up church of Ne’akuto Le’ab (13th Century AD) which is famous for its wide collection of ancient crosses, manuscripts and icons

Overnight Lalibela Lodge or Maribela Hotel.

Day 6– November 27, Lalibela City tour.

After breakfast, have a excursion trip Churches of Asheten Maryam and Gennete Maryam. If this day is Saturday, spare some time at the interesting weekly market of Lalibela. After lunch, visit the second and third group of churches of Lalibela.

Overnight Lalibela Lodge or hotel.

Morning after breakfast, take a tour to a lesser visited but an impressive and famous church known as Yemrehanna Kristos  (also spelled Yemrehana Krestos).  Late in the morning, after a coffee break depart from Lalibella and drive to Mekele on the way making a stop to view the mountain chains of Tigray. Overnight in a Hotel in Mekele city.

Day 8 – November 29, A Tour to Churches around Wukuro.

In one day you will visit around 4 churches; Abuna Yemata Guh; Maryam Korkor, Daniel Korkor and Abreha Asheba,  All of which are very different in style but stunningly beautiful in their own way.

To visit Abuna Yemata Guh, hiking for about an hour to commence a steep ascent up the side of the Gheralta massif. This steep ascent soon turn into a climb using foot holds and hand holds chipped into the sandstone rock by the passage of many hands and feet. The climb and the walk along very narrow ledges with sheer drops to the side is not one for the faint hearted. The church itself can be reached by walking out on a ledge one meter wide and with a 200m drop to the left hand side. At the entrance there is a small cave and a wooden door built into the rock.vOf the three, Maryam Korkor is the most impressive architecturally. A huge, high ceiling is supported by 12 free standing pillars. Looking at it you could not help but wonder how the architect managed to carve so high from the ground.

Drive back to Mekele for overnight in a hotel.

Day 9 – November 30, A tour to Atsbi and Mikael Barka proceeding to Berhale.

Using wukro as a base visit churches to the East of Wukro / Atsbi clusters: Mikael Barka, Debre Selam MIkael, and Mikael Imba.

Then drive to Hamedela via Berhale (639 meters above sea level). The Danakil Depression can be said to ‘begin’ here. It is one of the most spectacular region in the world, full of eye-catching colors, as in the sulphur springs. The desert has several points lying more than 100 meters (328 ft) below sea level. You pass through a small town of Berhale where the camel caravans stop before they proceed to the northern highlands. En route you see many long caravans going to the salt mines and others coming out of the Danakil with their salt loaded camels. (3-4 hrs drive) Overnight camping at Hamedela.

Day  10 – December 1, Tour to Lake Afdera (102 meters) and Hamed Ela.

Early morning you will rise with the sun with time for breakfast. You will take some time to relax, then we will drive to Lake Afdera - the mythical Lake Giulietti (or lake Afrera), a salt water lake located more than100 meters below sea level, in one of the deepest depressions of the planet. Because of the picturesque landscape, it is interesting to visit the salt flats where the Afar people obtain the salt by evaporating the water of the lake. Then continue to Hamad Ela, a village with a total population about 500 people. Over night camping at Hamed Ela.

Day 11 – December 2, Full day in Dallol.

Morning driving tour to Ragad (Asebo), the place where the salts are mined. Observe the breaking of the salt from the ground, cutting into rectangular pieces and loading on camels. You drive ahead to Dallol to Spend the rest of the day visiting the different landscape formed by volcanic activity. Overnight in Dallol.

Day 12 – December 3, Full day in Dallol.

Morning after breakfat take excursion to visit Lake Assal, follow up camel caravans and walk with the Afar people. Dallol + Lake Assal + camel caravans. Excursion to Dallol (116 meter below sea level, one of the lowest places in the world) colorful salts mining. Sunset at Dallol. Overnight in Dallol.

Day 13 – December 4, Drive from Dallol back to Mekele.

Morning after breakfast and coffee we will drive back to Mekele on the way making a stop to visit local colorful markets along with a camel market. After a farewell lunch in Mekele, you will be transferred to the airport to your flight back to Addis Ababa.
