Protection of Knowledge and Ancestral Technological Practices in Mezcal Companies of Artesanal Nature and Non-Technological Base as a Factor in Promoting Sustainable Development Through the Protect Function of the PNGTi Technology Management Model

Abstract

The present work is part of the project called, The practices of technology management in Mexican companies producing artisanal mezcal in the State of Oaxaca, whose purpose is to explore the relationship between technological management practices linked to the protection of knowledge and practices ancestral technology of the mezcaleras with the possible implementation of sustainable development actions in environmental protection, social inclusion and economic spill in the region. The work, of a transversal / causal nature, takes as a theoretical reference the function to protect the PNGTi technology management model, native to Mexico and easily applicable to non-technological based SMEs, as is the case with mezcaleras. The research provides elements of judgment to promote the development of an emblematic industry in Mexico and demonstrates that if the sector's interest in technological practices linked to intellectual property is increased, the implementation of sustainable development actions that, in turn, would contribute to stabilize an industry at risk of unsustainability due to its accelerated expansion in the market. Given the lack of theoretical references in the literature, it is suggested to interpret the results and findings presented with caution.
