We cover information about the different methods for the control of ethylene, which range from simple physical methods such as refrigeration, the use of chemicals such as 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP), the use of potassium permanganate (KMnO4) and the methods novels such as the obtaining and development of transgenic plants through genetic engineering (use of the crispr cas9 tool) and even the use of nanotechnology to control this hormone. The information obtained about ethylene, in addition to meeting the technological demands for the maintenance and preservation of the post-harvest quality of fruits and vegetables, also details the use of beneficial microorganisms that help promote the synthesis of ethylene. Finally, from a commercial, biotechnological and research point of view, several future perspectives have been proposed to improve the use and control of ethylene.
