A New Measurement Method in Survey Studies: Slam Applications with the Help of LIDAR Sensor

Abstract

It is of great importance to determine the current situation with high accuracy in restoration works. As computer technologies are included in all disciplines, as well as in architecture, the work done has increased with a rising momentum. With the help of laser devices, the time of measurements has been shortened, the need for manpower has decreased and the accuracy rates have increased. In recent years, laser measuring devices have made measurements with high resolutions in two-dimensional and three-dimensional planes with different technologies, making the work of restorators much easier. However, as a result of the increasing competition and the increasing cost of devices in recent years, laser cloud technologies have not been used sufficiently and alternative measurement methods have been developed. It is a method that allows easy mapping of indoor environments that can be realized with the SLAM (Simultanios Localization and Mapping) application and LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensor proposed in this study. Thanks to this method, it has been made possible to measure in plan plane at very low costs and high speed. As a field study, the two-dimensional map, which was
prepared in a short time by choosing the Ince Minaret Madrasah, which reflects the Seljuk architecture in Konya, is included in the article content. Wall thicknesses, door-window openings and space sizes can be read easily in the drawing, which is realized with high accuracy. Since the device can combine the spaces and it is not necessary to make a separate measurement for each space, it does not require additional labor, and it can easily measure in large spaces. As a result, it is planned to support the use of a system that can be advantageous thanks to this sensor that can be used in historical buildings and can quickly map the environment by rotating 360 degrees with a system that all experts can easily use.
