Different authors have reported important applications of this reside, like farm animals feeding and as a medicine. A systematic revision of literature was made looking for compile potential applications in different areas. In order to obtain relevant information, a research in data base SCOPUS was made. The obtained information was recorded into an Excel matrix, analyzing publication year, extraction methods, keywords, affiliation, used species, researched compound, compound application and analysis method. Researches on this area have increased in the last decade and the countries that contribute the most are China, India and Japan. The main researched compounds were unsaturated fatty acids, lipids and flour. These compounds are used in animal feeding, replacing part of soy flour, also as a potential medicine and functional food. The most used extraction methods for oil were Soxhlet extraction and solvents uses, followed by supercritical fluids and combination of 2 or more methods.
