The Identification of Learning Needs Based on Economic, Social and Cultural Environment at Pandhalungan Society in the Urban Area of Jember

Abstract

In realizing learning society which have goals to improve their live and also their quality of live, the identification of learning needs based on economic, social, and cultural environment aspect become urgent to be conducted. The identification is conducted by individual and group approach to reveal valid information about Pandhalungan societies learning need in the urban area of Jember. The objective of this research reveal Pandhalungan societies learning need in the urban area of Jember. It used qualitative approach and ethnography as its design. The ethnography is chosen because the researcher want to describe and also to interpret cultural system on the certain social group.  It was done by examine societies behavior pattern, habit, and their way of life.It also study about cultural behavior, language and their interaction to reveal about their learning need.  This research is done by four step, it was preliminary study, deciding problem category, data collecting, and data interpretation. Data collecting is done by observation, interview, and documentation study. The result of this study showed that Pandhalungan societies in the urban area of Jember have training as their main learning needs. Training is one of non formal education program that can be conducted to achieve prosperous society.
