EasyChair Preprint no. 1004

Abstract

Given the necessity of finding alternative solutions to overcoming the dichotomy between private and public, market and State, various authors have sought in the common’s approach devices of analysis to comprehend the complexity of urban environments. This work reviews urban commons, starting from the typology of goods in economic theory and presenting some reflections on the implications that this proposition has in cities. In order to achieve this objective, the theoretical proposal of the commons is combined with the analysis of the urban problem that is solid waste management. In Bogotá’s case, resources, communities, institutions, and practices that can be examined from this perspective have been identified; with the end purpose being to propose certain reflections about public policy.
