Download PDFOpen PDF in browserCharacter Creating Process and Meaning of "GWK" Winning Citra Trophy 2015 Animation as Preservation of Balinese MythologyEasyChair Preprint 1064629 pages•Date: August 1, 2023AbstractThe GWK animation (Garuda Wisnu Kencana) tells the adventure of a powerful boy named Garuda in getting Tirta Amerta (water of life) belonging to Lord Vishnu to free his mother who was held hostage by a witch named Kadru, the animation that can be watched at the GWK Bali Cultural Park won the Citra trophy in the animation category in 2015. To appreciate cinematic works, the government through the Film Development Center, and the Ministry of Education and Culture annually awards the Citra Cup as the highest national achievement milestone to film creative workers in which there is an animation category. Of the 12 winners of the Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) in the animation category from 2013-2022, only two animated works with the theme of local culture in Indonesia, one of which is Bali through "GWK" in 2015. The focus of the research is to analyze the aesthetics of animated characters set in Balinese culture as supporting stories in the process of observing the animation. The methodology used is qualitative, using animation theory and aesthetics. Data collection techniques are sourced from animated videos and conducting interviews with directors, judges, or film critics and references. The results can be helpful as a study to analyze the character aesthetics of animated works that elevate local culture in Indonesian regions. The data collected for the development of educational curricula and the Indonesian animation industry which has a regional identity that has a global impact.
