Achieving Meaningful Development in Nigeria

Abstract

The main goals of any rational nation, State or Society is to become developed so as to enable it provide the basic necessities of life that will improve or uplift their standard of living. Therefore, this paper attempted to explain the main reason why a nation wants to become developed like the other so-called developed nations of the world. It also explained some of the economic policies/programs and or reforms the Nigerian government had both during military and civilian governments from independence to date in which these policies/reforms were centrally aimed to achieving meaningful development. The paper also identified some of the challenges responsible for hindering or affecting the development efforts by Nigerian government. The paper further discussed intensively the possible ways of solving these challenges so as to achieve meaningful socioeconomic and political development in Nigeria.
