The methodology involves conceptual analysis of institutional models across Europe, with attention to policy frameworks, training approaches, and stakeholder engagement. The findings reveal that while data stewardship is a well-established function in many EU countries, Ukraine lacks both regulatory support and institutional infrastructure to operationalize this role.Nevertheless, embedding data stewards within research institutions can significantly improve data quality, research reproducibility, and compliance with international funders’ requirements. The article concludes that Ukraine should initiate a phased strategy involving institutional audits, pilot training programs, regulatory frameworks, and international collaboration to establish data stewardship as a core element of national research policy and to ensure its integration into the European Research Area.
