Enhancing Bibliometrics With CRIS-Systems

7 pages•Published: October 19, 2026

Abstract

A national CRIS alone can be used for many bibliometric analyses but comes with natural limitations, especially citation-based analyses. However, a combination of a national CRIS and a bibliometric database like OpenAlex can utilize the best of both worlds; the accuracy on affiliation data in a CRIS and citation-data from a bibliometric source. This has been piloted in Norway, and an integration between the two systems show a big potential for wider application and more accurate results, all in the spirit of open science and the Barcelona-declaration.
