Most engineering designs involve multiple disciplines. Interaction between different disciplines often result in optimum system designs considerably different from optimum designs obtained using individual discipline analysis and optimization. Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) builds on Multidisciplinary Design Analysis (MDA) along with optimization and other numerical / analytical techniques to enable efficient, accurate, reliable and robust system design optimization.
NCMDAO 2021, the 4th edition of the National Conference on Multidisciplinary Design, Analysis, and Optimization (MDAO), will take place virtually from 7th -9th October 2021. The conference jointly organized by Engineering Design department of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), Mechanical Engineering department at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru(IISc), and Design division of the Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI), aims to bring together researchers and industry professionals working in the areas of multidisciplinary design, analysis, and optimization. Established techniques and emerging technologies are equallyemphasized to take advantage of the past accomplishments to step up the future of optimization-based design of devices and systems. Thefocus is on design and analysis as applicable to optimization of systems. Optimization in aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, biomedical, andother application domains are within the scope of this conference.
Submission Guidelines
Prospective authors are encouraged to submit original work in the form of extended abstracts discussing application of established and emerging techniques to optimization-based design and model-based systems. The submissions can be in various fields including aerospace, automotive, biomedical, chemical, civil, electrical and manufacturing engineering. Industrial applications are highly encouraged.
Extended abstracts may be submitted in pdf format conforming to the sample format given below. It should be 1000 to 1200 words and should not exceed 2 single sided A4 size pages. The format for the paper is given in https://www.ncmdao.org. All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference.

Select papers from the conference will be published by Springer as a proceedings book volume.Springer will conduct quality checks on the accepted papers and only papers that pass these checks will be published.
Extended versions of some selected papers will be recommended to Journal of Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization, Springer. Please note that the selected papers go through the Journal review process, but can expect an expedited review.
