Abstract Deadline 15 September 2023 Submit: https://easychair.org/cfp/MEDLife2023
Chair: Professor Dimitrios Buhalis, ICTHR, Bournemouth University, UK
Mediterranean Life encapsulates several principles that contribute to well-being. Wonderful climate, natural and socio-cultural resources, a diverse gastronomy but healthy diet, spirituality and a supportive society create an inclusive environment to invigorate quality of life. Natural LIFE (sea, sun, forests, mountains, animals, desert etc) and the story of our LIVES and that of our ancestors (traditions, folklore, food, music and arts, historical landmarks etc) are naturally interlinked. Tourism activity revolves around genuine experiences, engaging with cultural and/or natural resources at destinations. Tourism activity represents a major economic activity and generator of income and employment, sustaining the LIVELIHOOD of people across the Mediterranean region. However, balancing tourism and the environment is becoming more challenging and requires comprehensive planning and management of resources, by using smart tools. Failing to plan and manage tourism activity can cause unwanted social and environmental disturbances.
The two-day Mediterranean Tourism Knowledge Exchange and Policy Forum will bring together researchers and policymakers to exchange news, views and research findings. It will empower Mediterranean Tourism regional and economic development, policy and planning, through evidence-based practice. The Forum supports tourism and hospitality organisations and destinations to develop their competitiveness and become more sustainable, attractive and competitive. Regenerative tourism should actively regenerate, revitalize and positively impact both the environment and local communities, making destinations more attractive for both visitors and local residents. Creating mutually beneficial relationships between tourists, communities and the environment, tourism should ensure that all parties cocreate value and benefit from the experience. The forum should stimulate further research in Mediterranean LIFE through tourism.
