This model is now breaking down in the era of AI-driven systems. As autonomous agents increasingly operate across enterprise workflows, they can act with valid credentials, approved permissions, and trusted integrations while still producing harmful or unintended outcomes. The challenge is no longer unauthorized access, but the misuse of authorized systems. This article examines the shift from identity-centric to intent- and behavior-centric security. It highlights how AI agents introduce unpredictability after authentication, enabling risks such as permission misuse, workflow escalation, and process manipulation without triggering traditional controls. The rise of “trusted-agent misuse” represents a new class of threat, where attacks occur entirely within legitimate operational boundaries. Using real-world examples such as the Uber breach, the discussion underscores how authentication success does not guarantee security. It further argues that Zero Trust models must evolve beyond static identity verification toward continuous behavioral monitoring, contextual authorization, and runtime intent analysis. Ultimately, the future of cybersecurity depends not on who has access, but on whether trusted systems behave safely and align with intended outcomes after access is granted.
