Unlike traditional software, which operates within predictable rules and fixed boundaries, agentic systems dynamically interpret instructions, optimize objectives, and continuously adapt their behavior. This introduces a new class of risks—not from malicious intent, but from “blind optimization,” where agents faithfully execute goals while diverging from human intent. The talk highlights critical challenges such as policy drift, goal misalignment, and adaptive rule bypass, demonstrating how AI systems can redefine operational rules without explicitly violating them. Through real-world examples, including enterprise failures and legal accountability cases, it illustrates the growing gap between static security models and dynamic AI behavior. The session proposes a shift from rigid control mechanisms to continuous, adaptive governance, emphasizing observability, behavioral monitoring, and intent-aware security frameworks. Ultimately, it provides a blueprint for building resilient, trustworthy AI systems in an era where security must evolve alongside autonomy.
