Conventional models, like classical plate theory (CPT) and first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT), exhibit constraints in precisely representing shear effects. Higher-order shear deformation theories (HSDTs) have been formulated to resolve these challenges, using a shear strain distribution function f(z) to enhance shear stress predictions. This article briefly reviews innovative shear deformation theories that integrate an f(z) function, including their mathematical formulations, benefits, applications, and prospective research avenues.
