Marpaung Conference:ICCCBE2026 Tags:Automation, Building Information Modelling, Framework and Modular Construction Abstract: Modular construction techniques have become more widely used due to rapid urbanization and the need for effective building delivery. Despite advances in Building Information Modelling (BIM), the comprehensive automation and integration of modular workflows, from design and fabrication to transportation and on-site assembly, remains inadequate. Problems such as fragmented data exchange, inadequate stakeholder collaboration, and a lack of integrated planning tools lead to inefficiencies and errors throughout the project life cycle of modular construction. This study presents a conceptual framework for streamlining the modular construction process from beginning to end. Parametric modelling, rule-based construction sequencing, and transportation planning are all integrated into a single BIM environment by the framework, which facilitates real-time coordination and decision-making. The study was conducted through a comprehensive literature review and initial discussions with experienced practitioners. The developed framework proposes a conceptual framework of a BIM-based automation system as a potential solution to the systemic fragmentation in the modular construction industry, highlighting BIM as a core information for all stakeholders. Future research will focus on developing this framework in more detail by exploring it as a robust data flow and using it in case studies to validate its practical benefits. Furthermore, this development will lay the groundwork for integrating this technology with digital twin technology for real-time project control.
