Bio

Latarence Butts was born in West Palm Beach, Florida.  He graduated from Florida A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 2018.  Currently, he is a fourth-year PhD student in Electrical Engineering at the University of Arkansas. A former basketball player, Latarence is a two-time all-state athlete in the state of Florida.  In 2018, he received the Black Engineer of the Year award for academic achievement.  As an intern in the wind sector of Next Era Energy, he worked to integrate a new converter control unit into a fleet of doubly fed induction generators. Later, as an intern for Northrop Grumman, Latarence developed simulations for aircraft communication and he developed models for aircraft antenna in order to investigate the electromagnetic interference and compatibility of the system.  Latarence is a Doctoral Academy Fellow at the University of Arkansas.  He studies high frequency radar systems to improve their performance through modifications to front end architecture and components.  Additionally, he conducts research in developing computational models for high frequency semiconductor devices.  Latarence is a fellow of the Tau Beta Pi honor society and has previously served as vice president of the Florida Eta chapter.  His main hobbies include software development and travel.
