Abstract

The term pesticide briefly means the substance used to kill harmful creatures called pest(insects). The use of pesticides has been traced back to 1000 BC by historians. Pesticides are substances used to prevent, destroy, repel or mitigate insects, rodents, weeds and a host of other unwanted organisms. It is used to kill pests that have effects on humans, animals and plants, as well as affect substances with nutritional value at every stage and reduce or damage their nutritional value. Pesticides are widely applied in numerous agricultural, commercial, residential and industrial applications to control and kill pests. Pesticides help society fight disease and increase agricultural productivity. There are several different classes of pesticides with different uses, mechanisms of action in target species and toxic effects on non-target organisms. Pesticides can pose a risk to the ecosystem and human health since they are transportable to air, water, soil and biomass after many applications. Therefore, pesticides are important substances in terms of toxicology. In this review, general information about pesticides and information about the classification of pesticides according to the parasite type they affect is given. In addition, information was given about the pesticides used in our country.
