Abstract

As part of the modern development of the urban environment in many countries of the world, comprehensive programs are being developed and implemented that cover the issues of urban revitalization and improvement. In this article, the authors will consider the most significant and large-scale projects (being developed, implemented and currently being implemented) for the renovation, development and reconstruction of industrial coastal territories in the largest cities of Europe, in order to identify current trends and ways to work with adjacent territories and their modernization. Today, a special interest is not only the economic feasibility of renovation of coastal areas, but also the issues of architectural appearance and functional purpose. Both practitioners and theorists of architecture, engineers and designers expect to use the latest achievements of science and technology for this purpose. The use of large-span shell structures, including geodesic domes, made of wood and polymer materials in the construction of buildings and structures for various purposes during the renovation of industrial coastal areas will not only create a unique silhouette of the coastline of large cities, but also take care of the historical value of cultural heritage objects, taking into account the environmental aspect.
