Effect of Deflector on the Ahmed Model

Abstract

The paper investigates the influence of deflectors on the aerodynamic drag of vehicles using numerical simulation methods, specifically the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) approach and the GEKO k-ω turbulence model in Ansys Fluent 2023R1 software. This simulation is applied to a 75% scale Ahmed body model, which is further equipped with deflectors. The aerodynamic characteristics around the Ahmed body model are analyzed in detail, including drag coefficient, pressure coefficient distribution, velocity, and surface friction. The results of this study have practical implications for researching force balancing systems, reducing drag, and improving performance for future vehicles.
