Factor - Factor Causes of Errors in Resolving Problems Math Students About the Cube and Beam Surface Area Class VIII

Abstract

This study aims to : identify the causing factors of those errors in solving the problem concerning surface area of ​​cube and cuboids in class VIII SMPN 23 Medan City Year 2017/2018. This research uses qualitative descriptive method. Subjects in this study were students of class VIII-9  SMPN 23 Medan City. Data is processed through diagnostic tests and interviews. Data were analyzed descriptively. These result indicated that : a) the students were inaccurate in reading the questions, b) the students were inaccurate in calculation the operations, c) the students have not understood yet about the concept of the square or ribs of the cube, cube surface area, algebraic operations, d) the students were wrong in completion steps, e) the students were wrong in determining the final result, f) the students have not able yet to distinguish between the side and side diagonal.
