Overview of Synchronverter Technology Applications in Modern Electrical Networks

Abstract

Among the various topologies proposed in the literature for inertial emulation in electronic converters, the synchronverter technology has stood out due to the versatility of its operation in various applications. Based on the applications presented in the literature, this paper aims to present different possibilities of incorporating the synchronverter strategy for connecting distributed energy resources to the grid, from wind turbines to electric vehicles, in addition to showing how the synchronverter can facilitate the dissemination of HVDC networks, DC micro-grids and also operate as a STATCOM. To deepen the understanding of the technology, a consideration of the synchronverter's parameters will be carried out.
