Train Corrective Maintenance Scheduling: Modelling and Exact Methods

EasyChair Preprint no. 2620

2 pagesDate: February 10, 2020

Abstract

The SNCF is facing many complex scheduling problems, such as the planning of trainset bearings, preventive maintenance of trains and tracks.
As far as we know, the scheduling of corrective train maintenance has been little studied in the literature. This problem consists in programming the arrival of trainsets on the tracks of maintenance sites over a seven-day horizon. Unlike preventive operations, which can be seen as overhaul, and which are known several months in advance, corrective operations take place to rectify problems occurring unexpectedly on the trains. This planning must not disrupt either the sales department or the preventive maintenance already planned at the sites.
This problem can be shown to be NP-difficult in a strong sense. In this work, we are interested in its modeling and its exact resolution.
