The establishment of the A2 English level, in a transitory way with a tendency to a B1, as a graduation requirement, introduces the application of English proficiency certification exams. For the elaboration of these instruments, the project "Development of an English proficiency certification system for Cuban higher education" is being developed. In its first phase, the scale of qualification of the writing ability was elaborated; its use by teachers, who act as evaluator judges, requires attention from the methodological work in the Higher Education Centers. It is precisely the objective of this work to identify the criteria and indicators of the writing grade scale with higher levels of difficulty by the professors for their understanding and subsequent application during the grading of this skill. A survey was applied to 18 English teachers of the Language Center. The result was the identification of the criteria with higher levels of difficulty to be associated to a specific level. In addition, we worked on favoring levels of consensus among the teachers. The experiences of the teaching staff enrich the results shown and favor their generalization to other higher education institutions.
