5th SPINE Doctoral Research Day

Submission Guidelines
Please read these instructions carefully before preparing and submitting your abstract.
- To attend the 5th SPINE Doctoral Student Research Day, all PhD students in Nursing Science affiliated with the University of Lausanne and the University of Basel, Switzerland are expected to submit one abstract.
- Abstracts should be related to the student’s PhD project.
- Abstracts from all types of research designs can be submitted (e.g., literature review, meta-analysis, observational, focus groups, experimental, etc.)
- PhD students can submit the following types of abstracts:
- Type I – Overview of the PhD project
- Type II – Study in progress: an abstract from a study that is currently in progress and for which no or only preliminary results are available.
- Type III – Completed study: an abstract from your PhD project for which final results are available.
- The Type of abstract submitted should be indicated (e.g. Type I-III)
- The Title of the abstract must be informative and include no more than 150 characters with spaces.
- Include all authors’ names and affiliations and the e-mail address for the presenting/contact author.
- Abstracts should be no more than 300 words, excluding title, authors’ names and affiliations.
- Abstracts must be written in English only.
- Abstracts should be structured according to the following format:
- Background (all abstracts)
- Objectives (all abstracts)
- Methods (all abstracts)
- Current state of the PhD project (Type I abstracts) OR Preliminary Results (Type II abstracts) OR Results (Type III abstracts)
- Conclusions (Including Significance and Expected Impact) (all abstracts)
- No Abbreviations, except widely used ones like “e.g.” or “WHO” are permitted.

Acceptance
- The Scientific Committee of the SPINE Doctoral Student Research Day designates papers as either oral or e-Poster presentations.
- Four abstracts will be chosen for oral presentations (two for each institute). Timeframe will be 10min (10min presentation, 5 min questions and answers).
- Abstracts not accepted for presentation are designated for e-Poster presentation. No paper poster will be printed, you will have to prepare a minutes oral presentation in front of your e-Poster, with a maximum of 4 slides including the title’ slide. The structure should be as follow: 1. Title Slide, 2. Background and/or method, 3. Method and/or Results, 4. Results and Discussion.
- Abstracts which have not been prepared according to the aforementioned instructions or not in-time will be rejected.
