Teach the Future
CS / IS / IT Education in a changing world
19-21 July 2023
SACLA 2023, the 52nd Annual Conference of the Southern African Computer Lecturers’ Association will be hosted by the School of Computer Science & Information Systems, North-West University. The conference, which is planned to be held in person, provides a forum for the discussion of original research and practical experiences in teaching and learning Computer Science, Information Systems and Information Technology, and related disciplines.
The conference programme will include research paper sessions, plenary keynote addresses, panels and workshops. We invite submissions of full papers, research-in-progress papers and panel proposals on topics from researchers and practitioners from any country.
Submission Guidelines
All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. The following paper categories are welcome:
- Full papers (maximum of 16 pages) that report on completed research, inclusive results.
- Short papers (maximum of 8 pages) that report on research-in-progress with significant intermediate results.
- Panel proposals (maximum of 3 pages) that cover the conference theme.
List of Topics
SACLA 2023 focuses on the future of Computer Science (CS), Information Systems (IS), and Information Technology (IT) education and the challenges that educators will face in the years to come. The conference will cover a range of topics related to the general theme, but not limited to:
- The challenges of teaching CS, IS, and IT in a rapidly changing field.
- The role of CS, IS, IT education in preparing students for the future workforce.
- Developing curricula that are relevant to the real world.
- Academic integrity and quality assurance in the education of technological content.
- Innovative teaching practices in CS, IS, and IT: New teaching methods, new technologies, and new approaches.
- Expanding access to CS, IS, and IT education.
- The challenges of providing adequate computing facilities for students.
- The future of assessment in CS, IS, and IT education.
- The role of accreditation in CS, IS, and IT education.
- Bridging the gap from school to university.
- Smart computing education towards Industry 5.0 and beyond.
Publication
Selected full papers will be published by Springer in a Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS) volume. Other accepted papers will be published in a locally produced, DHET subsidy-bearing volume.
