RCSI Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery 40th Annual International Nursing & Midwifery Research & Education Conference
Abstract submissions are welcome for consideration for the Faculty’s 40th Annual International Nursing & Midwifery Research and Education Conference.
A Programme of Events for the RCSI Nursing Conference 2021 will be live streamed between Tuesday 23 February and Wednesday 03 March 2021.
The theme for this year’s conference is “Meeting the Needs of Modern Healthcare”.
Global leaders will explore this theme in sessions on Workforce Planning, Recovery & Wellness and Service Redesign.

- It is ESSENTIAL that you read the instructions below before you submit.
- The Presenting Author must submit the abstract and is required to be the corresponding author for that abstract.
- Abstracts must be submitted in English.

You do not need to register for the Conference prior to submitting an abstract however following acceptance into the programme you must register by Thursday 17th December 2020. Presentation Type
An abstract can be submitted for presentation at the Conference as one of the following categories:
- Oral Presentation
- Poster Presentation
At the review stage, the Scientific Committee may recommend a change in the presentation type submitted by the author, based on the quality of the submission and to ensure the continuity of the conference programme i.e. oral presentation may be changed to poster presentation OR poster presentation to oral presentation. The presenting author will be informed of any change to their submitted presentation type at the acceptance notification stage and can accept/reject. The decision of the Scientific Committee is final.
Pre-recorded Presentation Requirements
This year, as the Faculty is hosting a virtual conference, presenters who are selected to deliver oral presentations, as well as a limited number of poster presentation authors, will be required to submit a pre-recorded video of their presentation. Specific video submission guidelines and advice will be provided to all successful authors.
Oral Format
Oral presentations will be 15 minutes long in total, and a live question and answer session will be facilitated, via the chat function at the end of the concurrent strand.
Presenters are asked to take note of the following guidelines when producing their oral presentation:
- All oral presenters will need to submit a pre-recorded video of their presentation.
- Video recordings must be submitted in landscape rather than portrait view.
- Videos must be submitted in MP4 format.
- Presenters will be issued best practice video recording guidelines and advised of how and where to send their video presentation upon acceptance of their abstract.
- All accepted oral presenters are required to submit a video recording of their presentation by Friday 15 January 2021.
Poster Format
Accepted posters will be asked to produce a poster for display at the conference.
Following the abstract deadline, a limited number of authors will be invited to submit a 5 minute video presentation describing their work. All poster authors will be included in the poster gallery, a showreel of all the posters which will be aired at regular intervals over the 5 days and included in the on demand video boxset.
Presenters are asked to take note of the following guidelines when producing their poster:
- Maximum poster size is A0 (0.84 x 1.19m) (portrait orientation).
- Keep text to a minimum.
- Ensure any text is in large font.
- Use graphs, charts, and/or tables.
- Ensure contents have a logical flow.
- Make it colourful.
All accepted poster presenters are required to submit a PDF of their poster by Friday 15 January.
Abstract Submission Criteria
When submitting your abstract please keep the following criteria in mind:
• Title of the abstract (word limit is 10) Please note: Titles must be in title case. This means only using capital letters for the principal words. e.g The Title Must Have a Capital Letter at the Start of Every Principle Word). Please do not include titles in the abstract document. The title will be added during the online submission process.
• Indicate your presentation type (Oral or Poster)
• Please choose the theme (listed below) that best aligns with your work
• Include the name, affiliation, and job title of Presenting Author (this person will act as the main contact for this abstract; this person must be listed as the first author)
• Include the name, affiliation, and job title of co-author(s). Please do not add authors and affiliations to the abstract document in order to facilitate in the blind review. Authors and affiliations will be collected during the online submission process
• Abstract word limit is 300 including references and excluding Title, Authors and Affiliations. Graphs or tables are NOT to be included in the abstract.
• Only one presenter per abstract will be identified on the conference programme (all presenters will be identified in the actual abstract). Please indicate the presenting authors where indicated.
• It is mandatory that all oral presenters submit a pre-recorded 15 minute video presentation and a copy of their PPT slides by Friday 15 January 2021 in order to be included in the programme. Full guidance on video submissions will be given to all oral presenters.
• It is mandatory that all poster presenters submit a PDF of their poster by Friday 15 January 2021. Authors who have been invited to participate in poster pitch presentations must submit their 5 minute video summaries by Friday 29th January. Full guidance on video submissions will be given to these poster presenters.

Review and Notification
All abstracts will go through a double blind peer-review carried out by reviewers selected by the Scientific Committee.
Notification of acceptance or rejection will be sent to the submitting author in Early-December 2020.
Registration of the Abstract Presenter
When notified of acceptance, the Presenting Author is required to accept the offer by registering for the conference by 17 December 2020.
If a presenter fails to register by 17 December 2020:
- The abstract will not be published on the conference programme.
- Will be removed from the programme and all RCSI related publications.
Withdrawal Conditions & Change of Presenter
Written notice must be submitted by 6 January 2021 for all withdrawals and change of presenters.
Publication
RCSI 2021 presentations will be published as an online video "boxset" to make proceedings from this event available both live and on demand in perpetuity. Abstracts will be published in the Book of Abstracts exactly as submitted and no corrections will be made. Please pay particular attention to grammar, spelling and typography.
Venue
Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the need for social distancing this event will be hosted entirely online. Full guidance on video submission and participation will be given to all presenters and participants in due course.
Terms and Conditions:
- The abstract submitted adheres to the guidelines outlined above.
- The text of the abstract along with the names and affiliations of authors will be published on the conference website and book of abstracts, and uploaded on the RCSI and FNM’s website and social media portals (including FNM website, FNM Twitter, RCSI Twitter and RCSI You Tube Channel) and promoted and circulated digitally by the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery.
- Authors are responsible for ensuring that neither their abstract or full presentation will raise any copyright issues.
- This abstract has only been submitted once for the RCSI Nursing Conference 2021.
- A submission as a particular presentation type may be changed to a different type following review in order to be accepted and included in the programme.
- Oral presenters and a limited number of poster presenters are required to submit a pre-recorded presentation for inclusion in the live stream.
- A recording of the presentation and a copy of the slides may be/will be published online after the conference.
- It is the responsibility of the Presenting Author to submit the abstract. They are the main contact whose responsibility it is to communicate with other co-authors and ensure that they register to be included in the programme.
- Accepted authors must register by 17 December 2020 to confirm acceptance of their offer in the programme.
- If accepted authors are not registered by this date, they may be removed from the programme.
- The abstract submitted is in English.
- The Presenting Author is available to participate in the question and answer session of the concurrent strand on either 02 or 03 March 2021.
