Overview
The 1st Philippine National Biomedical Engineering Conference (PNBMEC) invites academicians, practitioners, and policymakers in the fields of engineering and medical sciences, to submit original research contributions formatted according to the given template. The theme for this year is “EMERGE: Engineering and Medical Research Geared Towards Enhancing Filipino Healthcare”. The conference is organized by De La Salle University - Institute of Biomedical Engineering & Health Technologies (DLSU-IBEHT) with support from the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Health Research Development (DOST-PCHRD).
Background
Biomedical Engineering is now recognized as one of the fastest-growing fields in the country and the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) has been supporting initiatives on developing safe, affordable, innovative local technologies. Currently, the Council has funded more than ten technologies from proof of concept up to commercialization activities, particularly in the area of prosthetics, respiratory support systems, rehabilitation devices, and minimally invasive surgical equipment. These innovations are also aligned with the priority areas identified by the National Unified Health Research Agenda (NUHRA).
To highlight the abovementioned initiatives, PNBMEC was conceived to bring together various stakeholders, experts in the fields of engineering and medical sciences, industry partners, government agency representatives and solution providers to share knowledge and encourage discussions on the latest developments including emerging challenges faced in the advancement of the Biomedical Engineering sector, specifically at the local setting.
