What is NYCIKS 2023?
Historically, Bharat i.e. India has served as an incubator for ideas in different spheres of human life: political, social, economic, cultural and also scientific. The list of discoveries and innovations made over the centuries reveals India’s rich heritage of scientific inquiry – in architecture, astronomy, mathematics, medicine, metallurgy, textiles, health, ship building, town planning, textiles and more. For example, advances in chemical sciences many centuries ago allowed us to produce some of the highest grades of metals and alloys in the world. With its intellectual heritage and current prowess in different knowledge systems, combined with a tradition of innovation with sustainability, India now has an opportunity to become a leader in different fields. Over the past decade, there has been an increasing interest in Indic thought and wisdom as the flaws and limitations of the current model of individual and societal development have become apparent. Concepts such as sustainability, inclusivity, and values have gained prominence, leading to a surge of interest and initiatives in exploring and comprehending the knowledge traditions of ancient India, which were built upon these very principles. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 aligns with this spirit, emphasizing the importance of integrating Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) into the national curriculum and pedagogy, as well as fostering genuine research and innovation in this field to address the challenges and concerns of the 21st century. To encourage, guide, and provide platforms and opportunities for young scholars and researchers to actively participate in this transformative journey at the time when India has assumed G-20 presidency, the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) committee of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee is conducting a IKS National Youth Conference from August 25 to 27, 2023 at IIT Roorkee as part of G-20 University Connect program. The conference will be conducted in association with the IKS division, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. There is no registration fee and no accommodation charges for the students whose papers are accepted for the presentation subjected to the submission of student proof document. The institute will provide the accommodation within the campus.
