MuNdi (which stands for Multilingualism and Neurodiversity) is a workshop aimed at bringing together researchers from a wide range of disciplines to discuss a current research focused on identifying the needs, issues, cognitive and developmental aspects of multilingual people and, within that group, those whith a diverse cognitive profile. .
Using the term neurodiversity, a term now widely acknowledged by members of the autistic community to be best representative of the whole spectrum of autistic brilliance, linguistic and intellectual capacity, we hope to include any individual who does not fit the mold of ‘typically developing'.
MuNDI 2019 presentations covered bilingual language development in autism, cognitive profiles of bilingual children with high or low autistic traits, pragmatic development and educational provision for bilingual children. Keynote talks were given by distinguished researchers in these fields, Prof. Bhismadev Chakrabarti (Centre for Autism, University of Reading) and Prof. Mikhail Kissine (Centre of Research in Linguistics, Université Libre de Bruxelles). Therefore, research presented at MuNDi 2020 will endeavor to reflect these values and represent individuals with varying neural profiles, such as individuals with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, developmental language disorder, aphasia etc., who themselves have some link to multilingualism.
Keynote Speakers
- Dr Kamila Polisenska (University of Manchester)
- Dr Alexandra Perovic (University College London)
This event is generously funded by the Theoretical and Applied Linguistics (Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages, University of Cambridge) Research Area Workshops fund.
