The University of Warwick's annual graduate conference in the philosophy of mind will take place virtually on the 26th and 27th of June 2021. The conference aims to bring together academics and graduate students working on various issues in the philosophy of mind. Our topic this year is The Consciousness of Time. For further information about the aims and history of MindGrad, please the see the MindGrad page on the University of Warwick website.
We are honoured to have Professor John Campbell (UC Berkeley) and Professor Natalja Deng (Yonsei University) in attendance this year. Both Professor Campbell and Professor Deng will be giving talks on topics related to the consciousness of time.
We are seeking graduate students interested in presenting at this year's MindGrad conference.
Submission Guidelines and Deadlines
We welcome papers of up to 4,500 words (excluding bibliography), suitable for a 30-minute presentation. Papers should be accompanied by an abstract of around 300 words. Papers should relate to the consciousness of time and might discuss questions such as:
- What makes it possible for us to experience and represent change, motion and stasis?
- Are experiences necessarily temporal? Or could there be experience without time?
- Is there such a thing as the specious present? If so, how should we understand it?
- What explains temporally asymmetric emotions, and can they be justified?
- What is involved in the grasp of tenses, or the concept of particular times?
The deadline for submission is the 30th of April 2021.
Papers should be submitted electronically via EasyChair using the following link: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=mindgrad2021.
All graduate submissions will be subject to a blind review by members of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Warwick. Successful submissions will be informed by the beginning of June.
