Meeting description
The Manchester Forum in Linguistics (mFiL) is an annual international conference which brings together new researchers from every field of linguistics. The aim of the event is to share current work, results and problems and to provide information and advice for postgraduate students, post-doctoral scholars, and early-career researchers. This includes the presentation of papers, posters, a careers panel and plenary talks, as well as a social dinner. This ninth instalment will be held in-person (subject to Covid-19 restrictions) at The University of Manchester on 28th – 29th April 2022.
Submission of abstracts
Submissions for oral and poster presentations in all areas of linguistics are welcomed. Submissions that have implications for linguistic theory generally or that employ novel empirical methods are especially encouraged.
Oral presentations should be no more than 20 minutes in length with an additional 10 minutes allocated for questions, comments and discussion.
Poster presentations will be presented during a dedicated session on the schedule.
The submission deadline is 23rd January 2022 (midnight GMT). Authors are permitted to submit a maximum of one single-authored paper and one co-authored paper or a total of two co-authored papers.
Abstracts should be up to 750 words, and no more than two pages in length. These limits include references, glossed examples, tables, figures and the like. The abstract title is excluded from the word count. Authors are asked to use one of the templates provided below to produce a PDF to be submitted for consideration.
— LaTeX template (.tex), sample bibliography file (.bib), bibliography style file (.bst)
— Microsoft Word template (.doc; also usable in OpenOffice, LibreOffice and Pages)
The format of these templates is an A4-sized page with 2.5cm margins on all sides using a single-spaced 12pt sans-serif font, specifically Open Sans. Authors may alternatively use another, similar sans-serif font. Abstracts must be fully anonymous. To this end, do not include your name or institution in the text or metadata of the submitted file. Please also make sure that any references to your own work are in the third person. If your abstract is accepted, you will be asked to supply an editable, revised, non-anonymous version.
Submissions will be made via EasyChair at https://easychair.org/my/conference?conf=mfil2022#. If you have not previously registered with EasyChair, you will need to do so in order to submit an abstract. Upon submission, you will be asked whether you would like your abstract to be considered for an oral presentation, poster presentation, or either of the two.
Notifications of acceptance
We anticipate that notifications of acceptance will be sent via e-mail at the end of February 2022.
