LATICE Doctoral Consortium
First call LaTiCE Doctoral Consortium Applications
In conjunction with the International Conference on Learning and Teaching in Computing and Engineering (LaTiCE), a doctoral consortium will be held on Thursday April 19th, 2018.
The aims of the consortium are to:
- offer a friendly forum for doctoral students to discuss issues related to their research in computing and engineering education or educational technology;
- receive constructive feedback from their peers and senior researchers;
- support networking with other researchers in the computing and engineering education research field;
- discuss the process of research and life in academia;
The dead-line for applications is February 28th, 2018. Notification of acceptance will be sent by email by March 7th 2018. Applications submitted February 28 – March 7, 2018 can be considered at the discretion of the DC chair.
Applicants should e-mail their document to the DC chair Dr Andrew Luxton-Reilly at andrew@cs.auckland.ac.nz
Each applicant should submit a document (3 pages), which includes the following information:
- A cover page with details of the applicant including: name, institution, email address, phone, which year in PhD, advisor's name, title of doctoral project.
- A brief background of the applicant including information about previous studies, motivation for doctoral study, publications if any, and possible teaching experience or pedagogical studies;
- A summary of his / her research (current or proposed), including research questions, methodologies used or planned, and possible results obtained;
- At least two questions related to the research that the applicant would like to discuss and get feedback at the doctoral consortium, either on the applicant’s work or on the process of undertaking doctoral studies.
Three weeks prior to the consortium (by March 29th 2018), each student will be required to submit an A4 version of a poster for review (which should elaborate on the two page written document). Posters considered suitable will be exhibited at the LaTiCE conference and will be incorporated in the conference proceedings. On the day that the consortium meets, each student will display and present their paper copy of the poster.

Sixth International Conference on Learning and Teaching in Computing and Engineering

The Sixth International Conference on Learning and Teaching in Computing and Engineering (LaTiCE 2018) aims to create a platform towards sharing rigorous research and current practices being conducted in computing and engineering education. The conference focuses on the unique challenges of learning and teaching computing and engineering in multi-cultural contexts in universities and high schools and on innovative and emergent practices that are informed by pragmatic scholarship.
The previous five LaTiCE conferences have been successfully held in Macau (2013), Malaysia (2014), Taiwan (2015), Mumbai (2016), and Hong Kong (2017). The sixth LaTiCE conference will be held at the Auckland University of Technology, City Campus, Auckland, New Zealand, from April 20th to 22nd, 2018.
LaTiCE 2018 is jointly organized by Auckland University of Technology and Eastern Institute of Technology in Auckland New Zealand and the Uppsala Computing Education Research Group (UpCERG), Uppsala University, Sweden. It is technically co-sponsored by the Special Technical Community for Education Research (STC Education), which is an IEEE Computer Society initiative to connect those interested in all forms of educational research and pedagogy in the field of computing and engineering.
The conference includes gatherings for presentations of research papers, practice sharing papers, work in progress papers, group discussions, display of posters, and demos.
