iLRN 2020 Call for Papers & Proposals
iLRN 2020: The 6th International Conference of the Immersive Learning Research Network will be an innovative, interactive gathering for a burgeoning global network of researchers and practitioners collaborating to develop the scientific, technical, and applied potential of immersive learning. It is the premier scholarly event focusing on advances in using virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and other extended reality (XR) technologies to support learners across the full span of learning—from K-12 through higher education to work-based, informal, and lifelong learning contexts. Scholars and professionals operating in formal education settings as well as those representing diverse industry sectors are invited to join us in San Luis Obispo to share their research findings, experiences, and insights; network and establish partnerships to envision and shape the future of XR and immersive technologies for learning; and contribute to the emerging scholarly knowledge base on “what works” for using these technologies to create experiences that educate, engage, and excite learners.
Serious Games • Medical & Healthcare • Workforce & Industry • Culture & Language • K-12 • Museums & Libraries • Special Education • Geosciences • Data Visualization
Technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Education Society, with proceedings to be submitted for inclusion in IEEE Xplore®

PAPER/PROPOSAL SUBMISSION AND REVIEW
Papers and proposals must be prepared in accordance with the guidelines for the relevant Stream (Academic or Practitioner) or Nontraditional Session Format (Workshop, Special session, Panel session), and using the appropriate template (except for Practitioner Stream proposals, which do not require the use of a template). Submissions will be accepted only via the conference’s online submission system; emailed submissions cannot be accommodated. A blind peer-review process will be used to evaluate all submissions.
Please note that the iLRN conference uses double-blind review, which means that both the reviewer and author identities are concealed from the reviewers, and vice versa, throughout the review process. To facilitate this, authors need to ensure that their manuscripts are prepared in a way that does not give away any of their identifying details. Here are a few tips:
- Remove names and affiliations under the title within the manuscript
- Make sure figures do not contain any affiliation-related or other identifying information
- In the main text of the manuscript as well as any tables and captions, replace instances of the authors’ names and institutions with placeholders like “[Authors]” and “[Authors’ Institution]”
- Cite papers published by the Author in text as per the IEEE Reference Guide (using the only number of the relevant reference)
- In the reference list, replace the relevant reference(s) with “[Details omitted for double-blind reviewing]”
- Do not include acknowledgments or information about funding sources
- Remove any identifying information, including author names, from file names and ensure document properties are also anonymized
Papers will be reviewed using this evaluation criteria. Please keep these areas in mind when preparing your paper.
PUBLICATION, ABSTRACTING, AND INDEXING
All accepted and registered papers in the Academic Stream that are presented at iLRN 2020 and all extended abstracts describing the nontraditional sessions presented at the conference will be published in the conference proceedings and submitted to the IEEE Xplore® digital library. Content loaded into Xplore is made available by IEEE to its abstracting and indexing partners, including Elsevier (Scopus, Ei Compendex), Clarivate Analytics (CPCI—part of Web of Science) and others, for potential inclusion in their respective databases.
In addition, the authors of selected papers may be invited to submit revised and expanded versions of their papers for possible publication in the IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies (2018 JCR Impact Factor: 2.315), the Journal of Universal Computer Science (2018 JCR Impact Factor: 0.91), or another Scopus and/or Web of Science-indexed journal, subject to the relevant journal’s regular editorial and peer-review policies and procedures.
