Call for Papers
exp.at’19 is the 5th event of the conference series exp.at’xx. The conference will be held at the University of Madeira (Funchal, Madeira Island, Portugal) on June 12-14, 2019, and it is a joint organization of University of Porto and University of Coimbra with the collaboration of University of Madeira. The conference will feature the technical support of IEEE (IEEE Industrial Electronics Society and IEEE Education Society) and the Portuguese Engineers Association.
exp.at’19 will run for four days, from June 11 to 14 (three days Conference plus pre-conference day), providing a forum of discussion and collaboration between academics, researchers and industry and medicine professionals, trying to bridge the gap between academic applications and the real world needs and experiences. It offers to the participants the opportunity to present their recent work in the main conference sessions and in thematic Special Tracks, and to take part in technical sessions, workshops, exhibition sessions (Demos’19), discussion tables and thematic visits in the beautiful Island of Madeira.
Prospective authors are encouraged to submit full papers (4-6 pages), and extended abstracts (demos with 2 pages), in English and in pdf format, following instructions accessible on the conference webpage (http://expat.org.pt/expat19/calls/). All peer reviewed, accepted and presented papers will be submitted for publication in the IEEE Xplore digital library. In addition, authors of selected papers will be called upon to resubmit extended versions of their papers for a special issue of Information - Open Access Journal of Information Science, Technology and Engineering (among other journals as iJOE, iJIM or IJET).
Submission Guidelines
All papers must be submitted using the EasyChair submission system. Please follow the link to log in, enter as an author, select a track (the exp.at'19 Main Track, the Demo Session or one of the Special Sessions) and submit your paper.
Author Guidelines
Manuscripts must be written in English with a paper length from four (4) to six (6) printed pages, including figures and tables. Authors must adhere to the IEEE Conference written paper format.

Venue
exp.at’19 conference will take place in the Rectory Building of the University of Madeira, in the center of Funchal, Madeira Island, Portugal. The island of Madeira is located in the Atlantic Ocean, about 520km (320 miles) from the African coast and 1000km (620 miles) from the European continent.
How to get there?
A flight to Madeira takes about 1h30 from mainland Portugal and just over 3h from the main European airports. Many airline companies, including ‘low cost’ companies, fly regularly to Madeira.
Madeira Airport is located in Santa Cruz, 16km (10 miles) from the city of Funchal. It takes approximately 20 minutes to get to Funchal by car.
How to get from the airport to city center?
Taxi: The airport taxi stand is located outside the arrivals area of Madeira Airport, level 0. It is an economical option if you are traveling in a group.
Bus: The company responsible for bus transportation from the airport is SAM. After you leave the arrivals area, follow the main road and keep on the right hand side. After approximately 100 meters you will find a bus stop. The ticket to Funchal is payable on board.
Aerobus: The Aerobus is a frequent express bus service between the airport and Funchal. Prices: €5 (one-way ticket); €7,50 (roundtrip). TAP Portugal passengers can travel free upon presentation of their boarding card.
