Optimizing the traffic management operations is a big challenge due to massive increase in number of vehicles, traffic congestions and road accidents. Current progress in wireless communication, computing paradigms and Internet of Things (IoT) fetched the enhancement of intelligent devices equipped with wireless communication capabilities and high efficiency processors. With the development of wireless technologies, IoT, cloud computing and rapid growth in the number of smart vehicles, where the need of connecting smart devices such as smart phone, PDA, smart watch, smart TV, lap top etc. with cloud through Internet has raised and demanding. Further, conventional VANETs face several technical challenges in deployment due to less flexibility, poor connectivity, and inadequate intelligence. Cloud computing, vehicular cloud computing, IoT and VANET are the major components in the current Intelligent Transport System (ITS). Various research on VANET, cloud concepts and IoT shows that these have significant effects in smart transportation system. This book start with the range of new concepts in emerging VANETs, integration with cloud computing and IoT, emerging wireless networking and computing models. It will also introduce new VANET architecture, technology gap, business opportunities, future applications, worldwide applicability, challenges and drawbacks respectively. This book also would like to address the significance of 5G Networks in VANET, vehicular cloud computing, edge (fog) computing based on VANET.
