Eighth International Engineering Systems Symposium (CESUN 2021)
Call for Contributions
Submission Deadline: August 2, 2021
Despite the great engineering achievements in the past several decades, recent events such as COVID-19 pandemic, 2021 Texas power crisis, and the Suez Canal blockage have once again exposed the challenges that societies face in our more-than-ever globalized world. The complexity of the challenges is no longer limited to technical aspects, and engineers must now face the social, economic, and political complexities. Over the past few decades, Engineering Systems has emerged as an interdisciplinary field of study to address these unexpected challenges in complex systems such as energy, communications, transportation, health care, and many others.
CESUN is, at its core, about bringing to bear engineering knowledge and leveraging the increased availability of data to address the great challenges posed by large-scale, interconnected, and therefore highly complex and dynamic, sociotechnical systems. The Eighth International Engineering Systems symposium (CESUN 2021) with the overarching theme of “Innovations in Complex Sociotechnical Systems and International Collaborations" seeks to bring together researchers, from multiple domains and methodological backgrounds who share a common interest in tackling complex socio-technical systems problems. We welcome submissions on any traditional CESUN topic, but particularly encourage work that speaks to a crosscutting theme, such as:
- Complex Sociotechnical Systems
- Engineering Systems and Education
- Health Care Systems Engineering
- Humans in Engineering Systems
- International Innovation and Enterprise Systems
- Methodological Advances in Systems Engineering and Science
- Resilient Infrastructure Systems and Smart Cities
- Trust and Security of Advanced Logistics Systems
Submission Process:
All contributions must be received by Monday August 2nd, 2021. There are two options for submission:
- Extended Abstracts (3-4 pages, IEEE format) for oral presentations.
- Regular Abstracts (500 words) for poster presentations.
Extended abstracts should include preliminary results. They will be peer reviewed by CESUN 2021 Technical Committee to be considered for oral presentations during the symposium. Excellent extended abstract submissions will be invited to submit to special issues in top-tier journals related to CESUN topics. Detailed instructions will be provided to the selected authors following the normal paper review process. Submissions not selected for oral presentation will be considered for slots in the poster session.
Regular abstracts will be reviewed for relevance and fit by the conference organizers and will be considered for slots in the poster sessions. There will be multiple dedicated opportunities for poster throughout the symposium. Regular abstracts are limited to 500 words and should include full name, affiliation (including both department name and organization name), and email address for all authors.
If you would be willing to help review papers, please indicate that when you submit your paper.
The submission process will be managed through Easychair using this link. You must create an account first.
