APAN is an annual symposium that aims to facilitate the growth of auditory neuroscience, particularly for research on computations, circuits and neural systems supporting auditory perception and cognition.
Since our first meeting in 2003, APAN has provided an opportunity for young and established researchers to network, discuss issues of common interest, and share their latest findings before the Society for Neuroscience meeting. As we all know, 2020 has introduced entirely new challenges for us as individuals and societies. COVID-19 has prevented us from packing into a hotel ballroom for talks, posters, animated discussions and well-deserved libations and presenter awards at the end of the day. But it has not lessened our mandate to showcase the latest, unpublished work in our field, support the professional development of our younger members, and honor the career achievements of an established member of our community through a keynote lecture. APAN 2020 will be hosted online and there will be no registration cost. We hope this will transform the lemons of 2020 into lemonade, by bringing in new conference registrants and presenters to expand the scope and impact of our research.
For everyone attending APAN (whether or not you are submitting an abstract)
- You must register for the meeting at https://www.med.upenn.edu/apan/registration.html
- Registration is free, but mandatory. You will not be able to access the online conference unless you register.
- Please register early (how about now?). The more we know about the number of registrants, the better we can plan a good user experience at the virtual conference. It only takes a minute.
- The registration deadline is Oct 21, 2020.
For Young Investigator Spotlight applicants
- We encourage applications from Principal Investigators who have had an independent position for 2-7 years to be considered for a Young Investigator Spotlight presentation. YIS applications can be submitted through this website, using the abstract submission link - https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=apan2020. The YIS application deadline is July 31st, 2020
- YIS applicants should submit a title and abstract for their proposed 20 min. talk through the link on this page. At the final step, rather than upload a PDF of your abstract, you will upload your CV and a 1-pg cover letter briefly describing your research interests and contact information for at least one reference. YIS applicants may be listed as the presenting author on separate research abstract.
- Additional information on the YIS can be found on the APAN website - https://www.med.upenn.edu/apan/younginvestigatorspotlight.html
- Don't forget to register at the APAN website - https://www.med.upenn.edu/apan/registration.html. Submitting an abstract does not register you for the conference. The registration deadline is Oct 21, 2020 but please register early.
For submissions of research abstracts
- As in previous years, presentations will take the form of short talks, poster teaser talks and poster presentations. Talks will be pre-recorded. APAN is exploring options for virtual poster formats that will likely include a conventional PDF document. Presenters may also be given the option of recording a short presentation of their poster as well as a real time discussion interface. Stay tuned for updates on the APAN website.
- Abstracts can be submitted through this website, using the abstract submission link - https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=apan2020. The abstract submission deadline is July 31st, 2020.
- Authors may be listed on multiple submissions, but may be the presenting author for only one abstract.
- Don't forget to register at the APAN website - https://www.med.upenn.edu/apan/registration.html. Submitting an abstract does not register you for the conference. The registration deadline is Oct 21, 2020 but please register early.
- We encourage you to submit a research abstract in the broad themes of systems, cognitive and computational auditory neuroscience, that touch on any of the following topics:
- auditory memory and cognition
- auditory perceptual disorders
- brain processing of speech and language
- correlates of auditory behavior/perception
- cross-species comparisons
- hierarchical sensory organization
- multisensory processes
- neural coding
- neuroethology and communication
- novel neurotechnologies
- subcortical auditory processing
- thalamocortical circuitry and function
APAN is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment for scientific communication. Women and under-represented minorities are strongly encouraged to register for the conference, submit research abstracts and apply for the Young Investigator Spotlight award.
Keynote speaker: Prof. Eli Nelken, Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Keynote lecture, "Stimulus-speciifc adaptation in the auditory system: more than you wanted to know"
