The Assessment and Intervention during Team Tutoring Workshop has been accepted as a half-day workshop during the Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED) 2018 conference.
This workshop is seeking paper submissions for presentation and discussion during the workshop session.
The workshop covers the topic areas of assessment and intervention during team tutoring and collaborative learning in intelligent tutoring systems (ITSs). The development of team ITSs is a time-intensive and difficult task that includes technological, instructional and design based challenges.
The goals of this workshop include providing a forum for researchers working in these up-and-coming areas to discuss the progress that they have made in team or collaborative tutoring, discuss the approaches that they have taken, the challenges that they have encountered, and/or present theoretical models on innovative methodologies to address future work on team or collaborative tutoring.
Researchers who are accepted for presentation during the workshop will have an opportunity to demonstrate their team tutoring systems and/or theories if applicable.
To begin the discussion, the workshop will include an introduction and description of the approaches to team tutoring that the co-chairs and colleagues have used in the Generalized Intelligent Framework for Tutoring (GIFT). There will then be the presentation of accepted work in three topic areas: lessons learned from team ITSs, team assessment strategies and approaches (empirical and theoretical), and collaborative learning/problem solving in ITSs. The presentations will be followed by an open discussion to identify commonalities in the previously executed approaches, and critique future theoretical work. Through the open discussion, the current challenges of team tutoring and gaps in the team tutoring research will be identified.
This workshop is expected to be of interest to those in academia, government, and industry who are developing tutoring experiences intended to include interaction between multiple learners. The expected outcomes of the workshop include an identification of team tutoring gaps/challenges in varying learning domains, approaches that have been successful or unsuccessful in meeting those challenges, and determining the next steps in approaches that AIED researchers can use for their own team tutor development.
Submission Guidelines
All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. The following paper category is welcome:
- Full papers (between 6 to 10 pages in Springer LNCS format) on topics in the following theme areas, or related areas:
- Team Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITSs) in Action: Lessons Learned from Developing Team ITSs
- Team Assessment Strategies and Approaches in an ITS
- ITS based Collaborative Problem Solving and Learning
- Accepted full papers will be presented during the workshop, and if applicable can include a demonstration of the team tutoring system.
- Both empirical and theoretical papers with topics related to team tutoring and computer-based collaborative learning are welcome.
- Abstracts (atleast 250 words) should be submitted by March 15th, 2018. (EXTENDED DEADLINE)
- Full papers are due by April 2nd, 2018.
