The annual Conference for Truth and Trust Online is organised as a unique collaboration between practitioners, technologists, academics and platforms, to share, discuss, and collaborate on useful technical innovations and research in the space.
Our mission is to bring together all parties working toward improving the truthfulness and trustworthiness of online communications. TTO is an annual forum for academia, industry, non-profit organizations, and other stakeholders to discuss the problems facing (social) media platforms and technical solutions to understand and address them.
Submission Guidelines
We invite submissions of both technical papers and talk proposals (see below for details) on technical solutions for addressing current challenges facing social media platforms on the following indicative list of topics:
- Misinformation and disinformation
- Trustworthiness of COVID-19 news and guidance
- Hate speech
- Online harassment and cyberbullying
- Credibility and fake reviews
- Hyper-partisanship and bias
- Image/video/audio verification
- Fake amplification, polarization, and echo chambers
- Transparency in content and source moderation
- Privacy and anonymity requirements
The focus of the conference is on identifying what new problems related to trust and truth arise on the Internet and what technical solutions could be a potential answer to these problems, rather than incremental solutions to what has already been proposed.
We invite two types of submissions: technical papers and talk proposals:
TECHNICAL PAPERS
Technical papers should contain novel, previously unpublished material related to the topics of the conference and should be limited to 8 pages with unlimited number of pages for references. Papers should be technical in nature; for instance, authors seeking to publish a position/opinion paper should rather submit a talk proposal, possibly accompanied by a blog post. The papers accepted will be presented either orally or as posters. Double submissions are allowed, but they should be declared as a footnote on the first page of the paper.
Opt-out from inclusion in the proceedings: authors will be able to opt out from inclusion of accepted papers in the TTO proceedings, e.g., if they plan to publish their work elsewhere.
We invite technical papers of the following types: surveys, new methodologies, reproduction of experiments, resource or dataset compilations, and case-studies. For example:– survey paper: the core focus of the work should be to generate new insights about truth and trust online, rather than the specific method applied.– methodology papers should have a core focus on the test of the effectiveness of a proposed method.– reproduction papers should provide new insights by presenting a holistic view of a topic, and should try to reproduce results documented in prior work.– resource papers should present a new resource, such as a dataset or tool, or an interesting compilation of multiple datasets.– use case papers could present new insights about a specific use case, such as an event or a community.Technical papers will be judged by at least two program committee members, and the focus will be on the novelty of the work, its perceived impact, and its technical quality. Submissions need to follow the provided TTO template, which is also available in Overleaf.Anonymity requirements: technical papers will be subject to double-blind reviewing. Please submit anonymous manuscripts that do not contain information that identifies the authors or their organization.
TALK PROPOSALS
Talk proposals should be 2 pages long, describing the content of a roughly 20-minute talk (the actual length will be determined based on program constraints). We invite submissions from scholars, activists, developers, lawyers, ethics experts, fact-checkers, public servants, journalists, and researchers. TTO attracts world-renowned experts: if you are excited to give a talk to such a group, and you think they would be excited to hear it, then you should submit a proposal. Selection criteria include the authoritativeness of the speaker, the quality of the work that will be presented, and the novelty with respect to recent events and the previous years TTO presentations (past speakers are less likely to be selected).Talk proposals may be submitted in any PDF format as long as the submission does not exceed two pages. Submissions must NOT be anonymous.
Opt-in for inclusion in the proceedings: talk proposals may optionally be included in the TTO proceedings.

Please note that the deadlines are final and will not be extended. The cut-off time for all deadlines is 23:59 anywhere on earth.

We encourage wide participation from all interested parties and stakeholders on online media, including academics, startups and large industry, non-profit organizations and governmental institutions.
