SWACon2020
Software Assurance (SwA) is an emerging discipline for ensuring soundness and security of software throughout the development lifecycle. SwA has tenets of other longstanding concepts such as secure coding, vulnerability detection& remediation, malware analysis, risk management, and system testing, but has evolved into its own unique blend of these fields.
SwA seeks to deliver assuredness into the entire software lifecycle through employment of secure, reliable engineering discipline throughout the lifecycle, which yields software assuredness as a byproduct of following deliberate engineering processes rather than it being addressed in specific stages as one-off activities.
SwA has be defined as the “level of confidence that software functions as intended and is free of vulnerabilities, either intentionally or unintentionally designed or inserted as part of the software, throughout the lifecycle” (NDAA, 2013).
Software Assurance is still in its infancy as a distinct discipline. SwACon is intended to further the development and evolution of this field by bringing together thought leaders in this area for a full day of presentations and discussions on Software Assurance topics.
