This year's PPDK will be held as an online event. Like its predecessor in 2018, PPDK 2020 is aimed to serve as a forum that will bring together researchers based in Denmark who are connected by a mutual interest in the sounds of language and speech. This includes phonetics and phonology, as well as research within related areas centred on speech sounds.
The meeting will thus be open to a wide variety of topics (see the topics listed on this website to get an idea), and welcomes abstracts on any language, as well as theoretical as well as applied aspects of phonetics and phonology, using various methodological approaches.
If none of the presenters is based in Denmark, we expect that the abstract is on some aspect of the Danish language, or includes considerations of Danish.
The event is hosted by Aarhus University in the hope of sparking stronger cross-regional collaborations and a more close-knit Danish community of researchers working on the sounds of language and speech. The meeting is therefore open not only to established and early career academics but also to student researchers at BA and MA levels. Students are encouraged to submit abstracts for poster presentations.
The keynote speaker at the meeting will be Amalia Arvaniti, who will also be hosting a workshop on intonational analysis.
Submission Guidelines
Abstracts, including references, should not exceed 1 A4 page (or 500 words) and should be submitted in pdf format via EasyChair by 1 August 2020. Authors may submit a maximum of 1 first-authored and 1 co-authored paper, or two co-authored papers. Please use a standard font such as Times New Roman, size 12, with single spacing. The review process will be double-blind, so please do not include author names or affiliations in the abstract.
Notifications of acceptance will be sent out by October 2020.
Abstracts for the following paper categories are welcomed:
- Oral presentations – these presentations can be single-authored or co-authored. One first-authored abstract may be submitted per researcher. The timing of the presentations will be 20 minutes plus 10 minutes for questions and discussion.
- Posters – the conference will feature a small number of poster presentations dedicated to BA and MA students at Danish universities. If you fit these criteria and wish to present a poster, please indicate this during the submission of your abstract.
