The 2nd Nordic Sound and Music Conference will take place online on 11-12 November 2021, and will be organized by the Sound and Music Computing group at the Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology at Aalborg University, Copenhagen.
You are welcome to participate and make scientific and/or music-based submissions.
The conference will also include hands-on workshops such as a workshop on the JUCE framework by Silvin Willemsen. More information about these activities will be published here.
Call for Submissions
NordicSMC 2021 welcomes both scientific and music-based contributions that lie within the scope of the Sound and Music Computing (SMC) field, especially those relevant to the featured topic of this year’s conference:
Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Research in Sound and Music Computing
Through this topic, we aim to foster SMC research by bringing together the promising new generation of talented young researchers and students. Our goal is to provide them with the full online conference experience in the presence of some of the most renowned veterans of the field. As such, we strongly encourage submissions from PhD students, master students, advanced bachelor students and early stage researchers, although all within the SMC community are most welcome to submit and participate.
Submission Guidelines
The 2nd Nordic SMC Conference accepts submissions* on one of the following two tracks**:
- Scientific paper: 4-6 pages of original work, written in English, and not previously published. We recommend a length of 5 pages. For accepted papers, a pre-recorded video presentation will be required - the presentation specifications will be communicated in the acceptance notification.
- Music-Paper combination: 2-3 page short paper, written in English, accompanied by a musical piece showcasing the artistic work described. The peer review process will evaluate the contribution on both its scientific and artistic merits. We encourage submissions that go beyond technical demonstration purposes. For accepted works, a video presentation will be required, possibly a live performance of the musical work (more details will follow shortly) - specifications will similarly be communicated in the acceptance notification.
For both tracks, the manuscripts must be in the PDF format and conform to the conference template. In the music-paper combination track, the musical work must be attached along with the submission and rendered in a common, high-quality audio format (WAV, FLAC, high bit-rate MP3, AAC or OGG). Pre-recorded video presentations will be required for both tracks, and the corresponding specifications will be communicated in the acceptance notification.

All submissions will be peer-reviewed, and accepted papers will be included in the conference proceedings. Please note that presenting authors must, in a timely fashion, register to the conference and submit a pre-recorded video presentation for the paper to be included in the proceedings.
*All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference.
**Submission for Music-Paper combination can be accompanied by a Scientific Paper submission further detailing the work presented. The peer-reviewing process of each track will be an independent process, and acceptance on one track does not guarantee acceptance on the other.
