About The Conference
The second annual National Conference on Appropriate Technologies for Rural India (NCAT 2023) aims to bring together scholars from various parts of India, including senior academicians, researchers, practicing managers and policy makers in the government and in the industry for sharing their knowledge and insights on recent trends and challenges in development and adoption of technology which is appropriate for use by the rural poor in India, with special focus on the agricultural sector.
The need to harness science and technology for transforming rural India has been widely recognized. Translating Gandhiji’s concept of Gram Swaraj, the focus of the State has always been on development of self-reliance of local communities to alleviate poverty and improve quality of life of the rural poor. Simultaneously, there is also the need to protect scarce natural resources through use of small scale technologies and renewable energy.
- The conference will aim to provide a platform for exchange of ideas on technology that are simple to apply, use local resources and labour, nurture the environment and human health and should not be capital intensive or energy intensive. They should be able to provide small scale, local and sustainable solutions to reduce poverty, promote healthy communities and protect natural resources.

About The Institute
Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna was inaugurated in 2008 by His Excellency, the then Vice-President of India, Md. Hamid Ansari, as the dream-project of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri Nitish Kumar to resurrect the ancient educational glory of Bihar. It is an autonomous institute of excellence in management education, consultancy and research set up by the Government of Bihar on the lines of Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). CIMP offers full time AICTE Approved, NBA accredited and AIU recognized Post- Graduate Diploma in Management Programme; full time AICTE approved Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) and Executive Programme in Management (EXPM) for the officials of Government of Bihar and executives/managers from various industries/corporate. Apart from this, CIMP also provides short-term Training Programme, Research and Consulting services for various departments, agencies and bodies of the government and the corporate.
CIMP is in Rank Band: 101-125 (Management Category) by NIRF 2023 in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Rankings 2023. CIMP stands in top 100 in Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF).
About Centre for Appropriate Technology Management
The urge to uplift the conditions of the socially and economically disadvantaged sections of the population of the State of Bihar has been a major focus of Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna (CIMP) since inception. Providing education to poor children and adopting villages and orphanages are some steps in this direction. Such good work has been recognized worldwide and has brought laurels to the Institute.
The need to harness science and technology for transforming rural India has been widely recognized. The Centre for Appropriate Technology Management was conceived in June 2016 at CIMP to help disadvantaged rural communities to find better ways to do things that will improve their quality of life. The Centre aims to work at National level with special focus on Bihar.
The Centre for Appropriate Technology aims to promote development, diffusion and transfer of such technologies and processes that are appropriate to the resources and needs of low-income communities in the State.
The vision of the Centre is to create self-reliant local communities, particularly in rural areas, who utilize locally available resources and skills to meet their basic needs like food, water, energy and waste disposal while living in harmony with the environment.
The mission of the Centre is to promote development and use of technologies that are appropriate for the needs of the rural poor in the State.

Keynote Speaker
Dr. Anubha Prasad, General Manager, SIDBI
Dr. Anubha Prasad is a General Manager with Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), presently heading its Patna Region comprising the twin states of Bihar and Jharkhand. Anubha is a technocrat, a career banker and a sustainable finance practitioner leading the credit and credit-plus operations and steering the developmental work of SIDBI. An NTS scholar, undergrad in Electrical Engineering, and MBA in Finance and Strategy she is a Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers. In her 25 years’ stint at SIDBI, Anubha has held key positions across India- General Manager heading its Delhi, Chandigarh, Noida and Jaipur offices; Team Leader at SIDBI’s Sustainable Finance and Green Climate Vertical and at its Central Loan Processing Cell. She successfully led SIDBI’s projects with the Green Climate Fund, The World Bank; European Union, KfW, GIZ and other international multilaterals; as also mentored hundreds of first-generation entrepreneurs and advised startups and incubators at B-schools and universities, including IIMs, as advisor and visiting faculty.
In 2019, on a sabbatical from SIDBI, Anubha transitioned to the UN Environment as its National Coordinator leading the work on Inclusive Green Economy, sustainable finance, sustainable livelihoods, and sectoral green transitions. Post that she founded Karekeba Ventures (‘Kare-ke-ba- We must do it’ in Bhojpuri) in 2021 which is Bihar’s pioneering angel investing platform for mentoring, handholding and financing promising startups. Karekeba’s success story has been captured by several media platforms.
A thought leader, Anubha has held Board level positions in several Government and private companies. She is closely associated with gender inclusion and environmental issues and is currently part of G20 Working Group on Financial Inclusion and Business Acceleration.
Submission Guidelines
- Abstracts should be of 250 – 300 words.
- Full Paper should be of 3000 – 4000 words.
- The Abstract and Full Papers are to be sent as MSWord Document.
- Font Style should be in ‘Times New Roman’.
- A uniform Font Size ‘12’ should be maintained, for footnotes Font Size ‘10’ is to be maintained.
- Text Alignment should be ‘Justified’.
- Line Spacing should be ‘1.5’.
- Full Papers should be submitted in the APA citation style.
- Plagiarized submissions will be subject to disqualification.
- The organizing committee reserves the right of disqualification of any paper not adhering to the submission guidelines.
Please note that incomplete submission will not be sent out for the review process.
Best Paper Award
There will be one best paper award (NCAT 2023) given at the end of the conference. The best paper will be selected by a panel of experts at the conference. This is applicable for only those participants who are submitting full length papers.
Guidelines for the Participants
All participants and paper presenters are required to register for the conference with payment of the registration fees, as applicable. Registration may be done in online or offline mode. There will be no change in paper as well as the name(s) of authors/ co-authors once a paper is accepted. Submission of the full paper is mandatory for consideration for the best paper award. We do not have any provisions for the payment of transport allowance or reimbursement of travel expenses.
