From the Internet to online social media, power grids, the human brain, transportation and water distribution systems, complex networked systems are ubiquitous in nature and human-made technologies. Our daily lives critically depend on proper functioning of many networked systems. The last two decades have seen the birth of a movement in science under the name of Network Science, which is now a mature interdisciplinary field of science. Often complex networks do not work in isolation and they are interconnected in various ways. Some networks include heterogeneous type of nodes and/or edges, giving rise to develop methods to efficiently min them. Such systems, which can be expressed as ‘networks of networks’, “multilayer network” or “heterogeneous networks”, include entities (from different types) that appear in different layers of relationships. Multilayer and heterogeneous networks may exhibit completely different properties from simple networks with all nodes and edges from the same type.
This workshop addresses the various challenges related to data mining in this new growing multidisciplinary area aiming to bring together scientists, researchers, professionals, and practitioners from different disciplines (including computer science, social science, applied physics, network science, biology and medicine) to exchange ideas and experiences, promote collaborations, and report state-of-the-art research work on various aspects of network science, complex systems and multilayer analytics. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
List of Topics
- Crawling, and collecting big data to characterise real multilayer and heterogeneous networks
- Modelling multilayer and heterogeneous networks
- Models, algorithms, and methods for evolution of multilayer networks
- Models, and methods for spreading process on multilayer networks
