Studies on the intersection of gender, sexuality and language are part of a diverse field which is in full development and enjoys both academic and popular appeal. The linguistic turn in the humanities and social sciences, along with the impact promoted by developments in formal and critical linguistics, as well as in discourse analysis, have contributed to a re-formulation of questions around this discussion. Given the plurality of views surrounding gender, sexuality and human language, the first Language, Gender and Sexuality Workshop intends to provide and reflect upon a wide range of fundamental questions on the subject, aiming to do so in practical and theoretical terms.
The workshop will consist of two parts: the first will be the course Language, Gender and Sexuality, with Dr. Erez Levon, from Queen Mary University of London. The course will last 24 hours, and will introduce concepts and theoretical approaches to the course subject, illustrating and exemplifying the interrelationships involving gender, sexuality and language use, examining the specificities of language aspects in specific contexts. For part two, a group of researchers and students interested in the subject will engage in a study meeting, with an opening keynote with Dr. Erez Levon, two round tables joined by Brazilian researchers, poster presentations, and a closing plenary with Dr. Rodrigo Borba (UFRJ).
